After barely escaping a confrontation with an unbalanced killer obsessed with her mother's murder, Cassie hopes she and the rest of the team can stick to solving cold cases from a distance. Crime dramas on TV, for example, often show crime-scene technicians wearing high heels to a crime scene.

Violence toward victims and serial-killer behavior are discussed and taught in the the "Naturals" program. Although unsure about what comes next, Cassie chooses to stay in the program to help her find the answers she is looking for. Lorelai left Locke at home with an abusive father when she was just twelve because Lorelai fell in love and was pregnant.Cassie has mixed feelings about her, because even though she was a serial killer, Lacey was still her aunt and so Cassie loves her in spite of her hatred for the serial killer she was. Cassie has the natural ability to figure out things, including the inner workings of people's minds and their behavior. In an interview, Jennifer Lynn Barnes mentioned that for the Natural series she began first developing the main characters and giving each Natural their important skill.

I can highly recommend both series (although my favorite is The Fixer, and I really hope the series will see the addition of more books soon). Thus she ended up taking several psychology courses along with linguistics and philosophy, as she became interested in learning how our mind works.Now twenty-three years old, she and her fellow Naturals have taken over running the program that taught them everything they know. Dean kept her at arms length at first and didn't want to let himself care about her, though he later admits he loves her and they begin dating. When the UNSUB sends Cassie a giftbox containing a lock of red hair, the FBI believes she could be the UNSUB’s next target, so they assign Cassie a heavy protection detail. Some parts are suspenseful and creepy, but there's a lot of information that pops up out of the blue, leaving readers wondering if they missed something.
