The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring". The Guardian. 14 December 2001. Archived from the original on 20 January 2022 . Retrieved 14 February 2022. Craig Parker as Haldir: The leader of the Lórien Elves sent by Elrond and Galadriel to defend Helm's Deep.

The theatrical edition of the movie was released on VHS and DVD on August 26, 2003. The DVD was a 2-disc set with extras on the second disc. This was intended to be a simultaneous worldwide release, but some British stores began selling the videos on Friday 22 because it was a Bank Holiday weekend, much to the ire of the film's UK distributor, which has threatened to withhold advance supplies of subsequent video releases. The Peoples of Middle-earth · Index) · Anthony Boucher, reviewing the volume in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, wrote that The Two Towers "makes inordinate demands upon the patience of its readers" with passages which "could be lopped away without affecting form or content". Nevertheless, he lavished praise on the volume, saying "no writer save E. R. Eddison has ever so satisfactorily and compellingly created his own mythology and made it come vividly alive ... described in some of the most sheerly beautiful prose that this harsh decade has seen in print." [19] Continuing a trend from the first movie, Elrond (who doesn't appear in the book) is much more protective of Arwen and is almost antagonistic toward Aragorn, thus the Thingol portrayal and the "father-daughter theme" are both apparent. In the Mines of Moria, the wizard Gandalf the Grey battles the Balrog of Morgoth on the Bridge of Khazad-dum in an attempt to allow the Fellowship of the Ring to escape. Gandalf casts the Balrog into the chasm below, but the demon pulls him down with it; the Fellowship believes he is dead, but he continues to fight the creature as they fall down into a huge subterranean lake in the depths of the Earth. The Rohirrim’s love for their land is embedded in every turn of phrase present in their theme. The songful melody is equally at home in proclamatory brass or the intense, thoughtful strains of the Hardanger, a Norwegian fiddle. THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING IV - Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbit - They reach the pleasant country of Ithilien. The title refers to the rabbits Gollum catches that Sam cooks; the smoke from the fire causes them to be seen by men of Gondor led by Faramir, and they witness an ambush on a Haradrim army, and an Oliphaunt.

Serkis's motion capture was generally used to animate Gollum's body, except for some difficult shots such as him crawling upside down. Gollum's face was animated manually, often using recordings of Serkis as a guide. Gino Acevedo supervised realistic skin tones, which took four hours per frame to render. [28] King Théoden's reaction upon learning of Gríma's treachery differs greatly from the novel: in the book, he offers Wormtongue a chance to redeem himself by riding to war with the Rohirrim, whereas in the film, a dazed Théoden tries to personally execute the traitor. Having achieved victory at Helm's Deep, in the third film Théoden offers Gríma the chance to return to him when they meet at Isengard. At that time, the identities of the titular towers themselves were unclear in Tolkien's mind. In his letters [6] and sketches, [4] Tolkien considered several sets of towers, including Minas Tirith and the Barad-dûr, and even the possibility of leaving the matter ambiguous. Most pairs from a set of five towers in the story could plausibly fit the title: Cirith Ungol, Orthanc, Minas Tirith, Barad-dûr, and Minas Morgul. Pahle, Rebecca (1 January 2022). "11 actors who nearly starred in "The Lord of the Rings" franchise". Salon. Archived from the original on 12 February 2022 . Retrieved 14 February 2022.The third theme for the One Ring is an impervious snarl, limited to only four or five pitches, and unwavering in its focus. As with the other ancient powers of Middle-earth, Shore treats this theme to Eastern-tinted harmonic inflections suggesting a past age. The Shire & The Hobbits After an introduction in which designers Christian Rivers, Paul Lasaine, and Jeremy Bennett tell of their duties in the making of The Two Towers, most of the book's text is commentary by members of Weta Workshop and Weta Digital, and Alan Lee and John Howe, who designed the majority of environments and buildings seen in the film. Commentary accompanies a sketch, matte painting sculpture, maquette, color study, digital art-piece, armor concept, or costume that someone was involved with. It closes with an Afterword by Andy Serkis, actor of Gollum, describing his time portraying the character. VIII · The Road to Isengard — They travel to Isengard, and see that it has been destroyed. At Isengard they find Merry and Pippin.
