It is obvious as you read that the author knows the region. Living in the North East myself, I love the familiar landscape described within the passages. I love how I can recognise where the author is describing, I can plot everything out in my head. Writing a great book is an accomplishment in itself, but to write a whole series, that in my opinion just gets better with each book, is for me, as rare as hens teeth. In my experience of several series of books I find that the author doesn't do enough to keep the sparkle alive within each book but this is definitely something that Louise has mastered. If you've read any of the DCI Ryan books then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about and if you haven't read any of them then you really are missing out on some amazing books so don't just take my word for it, do yourself a favour and hook yourself up with a date with DCI Ryan. Needless to say I highly recommend this book and the whole series. They're all gripping, suspenseful, well-written books. Imagine going to a murder mystery and finding an elderly man actually dead. This is what happens when they attend a Victorian murder mystery evening they have been invited to. Then a second body is found Ryan must work out who the killer is before they strike again! OMG I love itI absolutely loved the set up here, it was an opportunity for the author to explore the continuing relationships between the friends and colleagues but also involving them in this new investigation. At times it felt rather like an Agatha Christie novel with a murder taking place when the lights went off and a murder takes place and we then meet a cast of potential suspects for Ryan and his team to investigate!!

WOW! What an ending! I loved it! With 3 guns aimed you just don't know who it was that pulled the trigger, or if that all did at once. Spectacular ending.

DCI Ryan Series

Cragside is the sixth book in the DCI Ryan Mysteries series. I think it would help to have read some of the previous books but wouldn’t say it’s essential. I came across this series in the beginning of the year and binge-listened to all audiobooks that were available at the time. I became a big fan of the DCI Ryan novels and the writing style of LJ Ross'; I always look forward to where the next story takes us and how the characters develop. Apart from the editing, which her husband proudly did, she did not have to pay anything, and was pleasantly surprised when the novel took off. She has been publishing as an Indie ever since. The DCI Ryan Mysteries are set in Northumberland, which is a region of England that the author is particularly familiar with, given that she grew up there. These are fast-paced mystery and murder novels peppered with a bit of romance and humor.

Good story, action, a bit of scary blood and gore, and a couple of reveals at the end that give us some more insight into both Edwards and Ryan. Yes. And you’re DCI Ryan,’ she held out a hand and wished she’d had time to run a brush through her hair.” By frantically digging through Edward's past, they find he changed his name at aged 16. Why and who paid for him to go to boarding school.

Here’s my only problem with the book: A word was found on Beth’s palm that said “Invictus.” When Lowerson asks what it meant the BOOK said “unvanquished,” but the READER said “I remain.” And that happened 3 times. Then when “Maneo” was written in with the entrails of 2 victims in was READ as “unvanquished” but the BOOK said “I remain.” The whole thing was crazy and needs to be fixed. Cragside has a bit of everything, it’s essentially a crime book but there’s also humour, a touch of romance and I would recommend having a hanky at your side as I’ll admit I did get a tad emotional. It has twists and turns and enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. So, 5th book in the series and they just get better and better but I hated it because book 4 was a cliffhanger and I read it 9/2/16 and had to wait all this time to read the next. That wouldn’t be so bad if I hadn’t read 50 or 60 books in between then and now. That’s why I hate cliffhangers and I wouldn’t have read book 4 if I’d known it was one.
