Is there a bit of a delay when you execute something like these trims? Maybe a minuscule one but it’s quite small. No more than other hardware surfaces like a Contour Shuttle Pro. It may be fractionally slower than executing something in Premiere Pro but it’s almost unnoticeable. It works very well. That is the addition of Premiere Pro and Resolve keyboard mappings as an option in addition to the Media Composer defaults. Sorry for bumping an old thread but it seems that some keyboard shortcuts is not functioning as they should. Not sure if they are bugs or not:

Also, I couldn't find a way to set the keyboard shortcut for the Auto Align Clips by Waveform on the Timeline. Hope it is included in the next update.

Again, you’ll get out of it what you put into it. Yea but what about all those other tools Avid editor use? We’ve compiled this handy Pro Tools keyboard shortcuts guide so that you can speed up your editing and recording sessions so you can work smarter, not harder. Make sure to save this for future reference! If it lets you work faster and becomes your baby, then keep changing your keyboard until you feel happy with it. Also if another editor comes to use you keyboard and says "WTF!?!?" you know you're doing something right :) I believe it can be. Adjusting audio gain via a dial and not a keyboard combo is very fast considering you often have to implement the key combo multiple times as you change an audio level. A twist of a dial is a very natural way to do this and it beats mousing it with the Audio Mixer by a mile.

The short answer to that second question is that the Live feels like the top half of the CT. You get the 6 dials, the 12 touch screen buttons. What you don’t get is the extra 12 physical buttons at the bottom and the big, round dial with the touchscreen in the center. You also get 8 ROUND buttons across the bottom but the one on the left is a home button. So that’s more like seven. On the CT the home buttons is a square button. Okay! This can be a big downside for editors who are used to a certain workflow or just want to change things around because of personal preference (for example, you prefer to use the [fn] key instead of the control key before commands). You’ll want to use “Button to Button” Reassignment if you want to assign specific actions or tools to different hotkeys.Making mistakes costs time as well, so learning how to make precise, error-free edits and modifications is a skill that many sound editors will spend their entire career honing. Speed, however, is a much easier skill to master, and largely comes down to how well you know your tools. Several types of goods are exempt from being returned. Perishable goods such as food, flowers, newspapers or magazines cannot be returned. We also do not accept products that are intimate or sanitary goods, hazardous materials, or flammable liquids or gases. The keys to being a successful professional editor come down to two things: precision and speed. Precision is a skill honed over time, with hundreds of hours of practice and experience finding the perfect way to cut and combine clips to tell a story. Speed comes down to how well you know your tools. If you’re an editor who works on Avid Media Composer, shortcuts will become a key part of your workflow as they will allow you to work faster and more efficiently. We’ve compiled this handy shortcut guide so that you can speed up your editing sessions and work smarter, not harder. Make sure to save this for future reference! In Avid media composer, I can select a clip with some I/O points, and then Lift/Extract/Copy (ALT + z,x,c) into the source monitor so that I can insert/overwrite the clip elsewhere on the timeline.

I end up basically working 60% keyboard, 40% tablet (or mouse) and have pretty much swapped half of the keys around, so it's currently looking a little like this:Being a successful professional audio editor or producer requires both precision and speed. The longer it takes to complete a project, the less projects you complete. There are lots of different shortcut combinations that work with Avid, and you can even create your own shortcuts to customize your editing workflow (more on that later). Another thing you can do with these custom mapping options is assign a custom icon if you don’t want to use the default text. I just took a screenshot of these Smart Tool icons right out of the timeline and loaded those in the setup. This is very unfortunate as it 1) breaks the keyboard mapping for the built-in Avid shortcuts, and 2) severely limits the power user. Please reconsider and enable us Avid users the ability to go between systems without breaking a 20-year-old muscle memory.

But this has never been a thing in the Avid world so I was surprised to see this. It’s also the first time I remember seeing Resolve as a competitor keyboard shortcut option. 🤔 For most people the built-in keyboard shortcuts will be more than sufficient to streamline your editing workflow. However, if you are moving over from another editing program, such as Premiere Pro, you may want to keep the same hotkeys and shortcuts. Or, you may just want to change the shortcuts to work better with your workflow.

It's actually the thing that keeps me from moving from Premiere Pro and Avid to edit in Davinci Resolve. I use the number rows for shortcuts a lot in those two NLEs and since I want to migrate as much of my shortcuts from other NLEs, I can't afford to lose a whole row for just typing timecode to jump to. I'd rather having the number pad on the right for that purpose. The venerable Avid Media Composer recently updated to version 2022.7. This in and of itself might not be big news and I don’t always cover every NLE release as there are so many of them (and it depends on what I’m working in at the time TBH). But this Media Composer release had one addition that I thought was quite surprising.
