These Japanese-made screwdriver sets have the oddest shape yet, but I own some and I really like them:

I tried consulting local Unior representatives (mechanical engineers) and they were clueless about this problem. I also consulted with a company that sells tools of several different brands to other companies – mechanical engineers there didn’t know the answers. Apart from that, I didn’t find any other tool brand representatives willing to talk in my city or country. Tsubosan excelled in producing steel files with excellent durability, aided by their steel manufacturing expertise. Screwdrivers made to conform to modern ISO standards are designed to work with the crosshead screws fitted on old Japanese motor vehicles and are also compatible the original Phillips screw designs. Of course the existence of common standards does not necessarily mean all manufacturers have adopted them, but you'd like to think that things are heading in the right direction. One of the differences between JIS and Phillips head screws is that only the former has a small dot in the corner. If you look at a Phillips head screw, you’ll only see the four crisscrossing slots. JIS screws have these same four crisscrossing slots, but they also have a depressed hole in the corner. When you come across a screw with a dot in the corner, it’s safe to assume it’s a JIS screw. There are dozens of different screw heads, but only JIS screws have this characteristic. When Johnny first brought over his JIS screwdriver to work on the Honda radiator cap screw I didn’t even think about capturing it on video or taking photos.Tough Tsubosan files are a great investment for your toolbox because they last and last. The secret to their durability is the quality of the steel that is used to forge them. 3. Tsubosan produces one of the best hardness testers on the market I told him all about my “wonder screwdriver”, and he encouraged me to try it out. It worked like a charm, and now he owns four JIS screwdrivers. Its owner Seishichi Koyama started processing parts for a variety of machines on a sub-contractor basis.

In this set, you’ll have 8 bits in total. 2 of them are #2, 25mm short sized bits. 2 of them are long sized #2 bits that are 75mm long. 2 of them are short #3 bits of 25mm length. And the last 2 of them are long #3, 75mm sized bits. NEVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES try to dress or fix a damages screwdriver tip. You will never get it right and you will damage every screw you touch with it. In my maintenance shop our tool policy was turn a damaged tool into the toolroom, get a replacement with no paperwork and no questions asked. It’s very hard to distinguish the difference between a Phillips ® versus a JIS screw without magnification. Some JIS screws can be easily identified by a single dot or dimple on the head of the screw. However, it could be difficult to identify one from the other if the screw doesn’t have a marking. The shaft is made of chrome vanadium steel that sports endurance and durability. When you’ll be working on screws within Japanese branded products, it’ll prevent cam-out. The same will go with Philips screws as well. The parts guy at the motorcycle shop stared at me for an eternity before he finally blinked and said “There’s no such thing.”

On the other hand, a Japanese cross-point screwdriver fits both JIS and Phillips ® screws perfectly. If you don’t know what type of screw you are fastening, then we would highly recommend using a VESSEL Japanese cross-point driver since it’s universal for both screw types. Philips is a Japan-originated brand and produces Japanese screwdrivers as well, we know. But what we don’t know is that the screwdrivers from Philips don’t necessarily serve the purpose as a JIS screwdriver does. Especially, when it comes to dealing with JIS screwdrivers. The material that’s used to build these bits is S2 steel. And it’s hardened and heat-treated all the way. So, if you are required to even push some impact forces on some hard and stubborn screws, they will get your job done. The JIS screws are usually — but not always — identified by an upraised or recessed dot on the head, or the fact that they are completely gored out and will only come off with a set of Vise-Grips.

As machinist’s, we use screwdriver sets a lot. Many of us are also major tool junkies. So, when we get tired of the usual Craftsman or SnapOn options, where do we go for a better screwdriver set? The more significant change made by JISC in the 1960s related to thread pitch. To conform with the ISO specifications it was necessary for the 3, 4, 5 and 12mm screws and bolts used in Japanese manufacturing to adopt a new thread pitch. Because the screws made according to the new standard would no longer fit older products, it was decided that a "hemispherical dimple" would be placed on the heads of the altered screws to alert mechanics of the change. In practice Honda went on to mark the screws with either a + (plus) symbol or a ° (dot) and they used the mark on all screw sizes, including those where there had been no change to the thread pitch. Honda screws (L-R: 4mm, 5mm and 6mm) with the marks that show they were produced after the 1967 change to thread pitches

The name switch took place in 2018. HiKOKI name means ‘high’ (Hi) and ‘industrial machines’ (KOKI) in keeping with this brand’s great reputation for quality. VESSEL screwdrivers undergo rigorous testing to ensure that they do not require awkward movements or excessive force that could harm the user or damage the materials being worked on. VESSEL products Do you have to buy this one, or are there other good ones? Well, I’ve got some good and some bad news – which one do you want to read first? 🙂 I’m not an expert on education, so could be wrong – maybe such things should not be taught before university, because most people don’t go to a university. Its tools are easy to handle and support the user’s technical skill and craftsmanship. 3. Excellent product quality
