Description

EQ, Compression, etc. comes standard on the R20, and its MFX processor is even compatible with Guitar Lab, making mixing a convenient task I'm an older cat, I was a little worried my fat fingers and eyesight would not work with this but with glasses I'm cool. Recording directly onto SDHC cards with max. 32GB and SDXC cards with max. 1TB (memory card not included) As I plug it in and start to dig around I find other inclusions and exclusions that, intentionally or otherwise, serve to provide a spartan approach to production. The R20 offers eight inputs (2x combo, 6x XLR), two stereo analogue outputs (L/R main out, headphone out), or eight direct/16 recorded digital outputs over USB-C. There are eight channel strips, each consisting of a gain pot, record arm button, and a fader. It comes loaded with an array of effects — many will be recognisable to those familiar with Zoom’s guitar and bass effect pedals — and a 4.3-inch touchscreen.

The Zoom R20 has all the features to make music in one place. The built-in touch screen makes navigating and setting up easy. What's more, all knobs, gains and controls are colour-coded. You can drag, drop, pinch and swipe as much as you like!

Separately sold BTA-1 Bluetooth Adapter makes the R20 controllable via the Zoom wireless control app on your IOS device

The R20 also provides professional effects like EQ, compression and more, as well as 30 genres, 150 rhythm patterns and song variations. In the Box The mic pre's are nice and clean at this price point. The whole thing is amazing at this price point imho :)

Integrated effects, rhythms, and synth sounds

With the optional Zoom BTA-1 Bluetooth adaptor fitted, it's also possible to control the R20 wirelessly from your iOS device. Commendably, Zoom have also seen fit to add voice control to the accompanying control app, with the aim of making the device accessible to the visually impaired. I was looking for something that could get me out of my "studio." Something somewhat portable. I was looking at the handhelds but I'm a little ham-fisted for those. Then the L12 and L20 caught my eye but were still a little larger than I wanted. Looked at the USB 8 channel interface strip things but, I'd need a laptop. This thing is the hang and party goer :) The touchscreen is bright and reactive, and it has an intuitive GUI — with practical navigation and editing — however, my clumsy musicianship found me longing for a way to either punch-in or trim the clips with a more granular accuracy. Perhaps it just reveals that I need to unlearn some lazy habits.

In addition, the R20 features an internal synthesizer with 18 sounds +1 drum kit, playable via a MIDI keyboard connected via USB-C. To spice things up, and EQ, compressor and gate as well as a full MFX processor, which is compatible with our Guitar Lab software, are at your fingertips. The R20 works also as an 8-in/4-out USB-C audio interface with a Mac or PC. USB-C audio interface with 8 inputs and 4 outputs: wireless connection to R20 Control App via optional BTA-1 Bluetooth adapter (Art. 423971, not included)
