One Of Us Is Dead has big Big Little Lies energy, and proudly so. The setup is very similar: rich town, catty housewives, and, as the title declares, one of them is dead. The POV alternates between all the women, in the past before the accident, as well as Jenny’s POV in present-day, being interviewed by the police. I wanted more intrigue as far as the murdery bits were concerned. For most of the narrative I actually forgot that the whole point was that someone was ultimately going to end up dead. There was so little focus on that.

Jenny owns a salon that all of the women are serviced at. Just like a bartender or cab driver, she’s privy to plenty of tantalizing secrets. With its intricate web of relationships, unexpected twists, and high-stakes drama, One of Us Is Dead raises thought-provoking questions about human behavior, morality, and the consequences of one’s actions. I did love the cast of narrators in the audio version, each character having their own voice. I read/listened to One of Us is Dead and vastly preferred the audiobook. Following the success of his Spanish Netflix series Elite, Darío Madrona received several offers to work on American television series; one such offer was for One of Us Is Lying. Madrona thought the show would provide something "a little brighter" than traditional mystery stories and found the novel "super addictive"—he was also intrigued by the flawed and untruthful characters, and saw the project as a chance to explore more profound themes of friendship, love and want. After accepting the offer, Madrona met with the producers and studio and was hired as showrunner. [7]

There were a few of the women characters who I did like, and I’m glad that they got their redemption in the end. Also, if you’ve read the synopsis of the book and the title, you will know that someone does end up dead in this story. All I have to say is Thank God it was the right one or else I would have thrown this book out the window!! Olivia - is cruel, meal and hides behind “just kidding" when she is nasty to others. It is her mission to bring down Shannon. Reflect on the themes explored in the book, such as betrayal, revenge, greed, or power. How were these themes portrayed and developed throughout the story? Did they add depth to the plot and the characters’ motivations? Sara Thompson as Vanessa Clark, Addy's best friend and TJ's girlfriend (season 2, recurring season 1) I'm not sure this will be the last time we see the Bayview Crew, and I never say no to another installment, but I'm telling you, this is the best book in the series, and you shouldn't miss it!

One of Us is Dead is like Fried Green Tomatoes met The Real Housewives of Atlanta, they fell in love and had a baby that was essentially an Adult version of Mean Girls. Indeed, some of them were, so much so, that again, I don't like that YA authors resort to making the police force completely oblivious to the crimes - please, it would not hurt to bring some forth of realism to the stories. Just writing them off, as a work force that is not taking the crimes or deaths seriously, all the more annoyed. ☹️ And then, to have the ending, not even bring decent closure to all the characters - it leaves it all so wishy-washy, and even makes me believe that there may be a spin-off or sequel in the works, because it still left some story lines hanging! It was as if, it was written for the sole intent of making the bad guys completely unlikable and not even redeemable for their cause of actions.😩😩

Then there is Jenny, the owner of a now posh salon where only the elite go to be polished, coiffed, and fawned over. She offers a place where these entitled, spoiled ladies come together to trash one another at times, while claiming the role of being friends. Because of this exclusivity and frequency of visits, Jenny has come to know her clients very, very well. Almost too well for her tastes. This book is an assault on all women. Every character is vapid and stupid, caricatures of RH in any area. Women are NOT this stupid. Despite my annoyances, please allow me to highlight the few points that I did appreciate. Thank you for providing that brief overview of the character's at the start - it gave me a brief reminder as to who each person was. Thank you for limiting the story to only a few selective perspectives - as vast as a cast, it was, the selected few were, honestly the most important to the story and helped navigate the story in a better streamline. 👍🏼👍🏼 Thank you for showing the camaraderie between the Bayview Crew - they've all experienced a lot and their concern and care for each other was duly noted. Thank you for the little twist at the end - as cliché as the reveal was, it honestly caught me by surprise.
