It’s then given an all-over wash of a 50/50 mix of Basilicanum Grey and Contrast Medium . Make sure this doesn’t dry in any weird pools. Similar to the weathered bronze, I wanted a weathered silver for the other metals. I figure these guys are in the field in the Realm of Life and it probably rains a lot, and I wanted to sell a theme of antiquity for the army. For these ones, I painted the gem on the head dress with straight Stormhost Silver and then covered it with Spiritstone Red, the lower gem along with the blue and green gems were painted using the gradient silver method. I hope my recommendations help you to improve your hobby and take your painting skills to the next level. A lot comes down to personal preference, but the spray paints and primers above have served me excellently over the last few years. I painted the off-yellow skin in slightly different ways on my Barbgaunts, Psychophage, and Von Ryan’s Leapers – employing various combos of Plaguebearer Flesh and thinned-down Nazdreg Yellow over a Wraithbone base, with highlights ranging from Dorn Yellow to Flayed One Flesh – but they all still look like closely-related beasties. I’ve got yet another approach in mind for my Termagants…

Because I had painted a burgundy carapace, I wanted the skin to contrast with it, and pull from colours that matched the pelagic influences on some of the new miniatures. I started with Celestra Grey , and glazed down with colours like Fenrisian Grey and The Fang , and shaded the darkest areas with Druchii Violet , to keep everything suitably menacing. Will: Custom Splinter Fleet And with that, you should have everything you need to paint your Helbrecht like my Helbrecht. Don’t sweat it if you don’t have all the colors or missed that I didn’t saw how to paint the tiny heraldic shields on these four models in one. I left that as a treat, for you. There are specific chambers and schemes to use to paint your forces, but no one cares about Stormcast chambers in the way people care about space marine chapters. Similarly there are all sorts of specific schemes for the Orruks in AoS, but there is a lot of Iron Warriors but Orks, Raven Guard but Stormcast, going on. This probably isn’t just lazily repurposing marine chapter schemes for AoS but because there are so many marine chapter schemes that coming up with new schemes runs into the Simpsons problem.

All of them turned out great, but I am definitely not a fan of straight silver under the gemstone paints, even in this smaller scale. The gradient adds so much more depth, its not even comparable for me. Workshop are a win and are a good addition to the technical paint line. It would be nice if these came in more than three colors, and I would have preferred to have the third color be yellow instead of green, so we could easily mix them all to get the secondary colors out of them. But if it really is just 'ardcoat mixed with washes, it could be really easy to make some custom colors. Gradually mix in steadily more Evil Sunz Scarlet and layer up each time until it’s nearly pure Evil Sunz Scarlet, gradually getting further and further from the recesses Imperial Fists: The Imperial Fists are known for their yellow and silver color scheme, and Stormhost Silver is the perfect paint for highlighting the silver elements of the armor and weapons. Green Stuff World produces a lot of interesting specialist paints, including fluorescent and “chameleon” colour-shifting paints. Now they expanded their paint range with a set of acrylic metallic paints, including coloured metallics like red, violet, green and blue. Non-toxic and suitable for both paint- and airbrush, they promise super-fine pigments, ultrahigh coverage power and fast drying times. In this review, we take a look at all 14 Metal Colors and see how they’ll stand up to the competition.Add Athonian Camoshade and Druchii Violet in recesses and random patches, letting the washes flow together For the undead purple, I started with a base coat of Naggaroth Night, building up through to Phoenican Purple and finally Kakophoni Purple for the very brightest points, which gave it a slightly pastel tone to add that pallid finish. Easy peasy! You can fancy it up with washing or more steps if you want, but I think this scheme is just fine for the Underhive as it is. After that, it was Stormhost Silver and Contrast Flesh Tearers Red on the weapon, Contrast Ultramarines Blue& Contrast Apothecary White on the robes. I also broke out my favorite new paint, Tesseract Glow, and added it to the recesses on the weapon and crystal. Here I practically flooded the indents on the weapon and once it dried I ended up with this lovely effect.
