It is Halloween once again in Haddonfield, Illinois. Michael is still out there, and he's primed to strike. Unless someone beats him to the punch.and yet upon release, the howls of derision that greeted the film from the most ardent sections of Halloween fandom (full disclosure: myself included) let Blumhouse (the film’s producers), Green and Curtis know that they had singularly failed to deliver on any of their hype or on their promises. How does Halloween Ends compare to some of the best entries in the franchise? Unfortunately the general consensus is not well.

This Blu-ray release of Halloween Ends includes a quality assortment of bonuses. A DVD copy of the film and a Movies Anywhere digital copy Whatever your thoughts on Halloween Kills, it ended on an intriguing cliff-hanger – hinting at an evolution of evil, of how it had evolved past simply inhabiting the soul of a single man and now had been somehow released, alongside Myers’ own mortality and it promised much in terms of the final showdown with Laurie Strode as a result. Yet despite a handful of well executed thrill kill scenes (the opening baby-sitting accident is the best scene in the entire film and shows that Gordon Green can do when he puts his mind to it), the overarching narrative of Halloween Ends is not just a confusing mess (unlike the previous two films, the link between theme, narrative and character here is muddied from the get go – character motivations baffle, dialogue exchanges seem to about face in their meaning mid-sentence and even the simple story arc of key characters are puzzlingly obtuse) but it annoyingly pivots away from the end of … Kills completely (Myers is now a homeless man who can barely stand, not the mythic, invulnerable embodiment of evil he ended the last film as), almost jettisoning Myers wholly from its storyline, replacing him with a new character with no heritage at all and ultimately robbing the audience of the prime reason for this film to even exist. To be fair - I didn’t hate Halloween Ends. I do not think this is the worst film of the franchise. I actually thought the character of Corey was a genuinely brilliant addition to the franchise. I thought that Laurie Strode masking her pain by trying to be “tits-out” domestic grandma was a smart avenue for her character as she and Allyson cope with their loss. I loved all of this stuff because it felt real and emotionally raw and was actually a smart path to take for a franchise riddled with stupidity. My problem with Halloween Ends is this was the exact wrong time to pull this particular story card. If there’s been one constant with this new trilogy it's each film has scored an excellent 4K transfer, and that trend continues with this 2160p Dolby Vision presentation of Halloween Ends. The film was shot digitally and finished with a 4K digital intermediate. Appropriately dreary and cold, the image is impeccably detailed with facial features, clothing, masks, and gore getting all of the care and attention they deserve. Michael’s cobwebbed burnt mask is a standout for all of the close-up action we see with the short amount of screen time he gets.Instead, the boy in his charge dies and, while he is not found complicit in the death, he becomes a social pariah in Haddonfield, bullied and battered The Visions of Terror –See how various production departments came together to achieve the film’s unique visual style.

Top of the box office charts for 2023, and by some distance, is The Super Mario Bros Movie, the spiritual successor to the 1993 live action version. Sort of. There have been 13 Halloween movies since 1978, from the John Carpenter-directed original to the upcoming Halloween Ends. The timeline and how they all connect can be a bit confusing, but if you just want to know how to watch or rewatch any of the Halloween movies right now, we’ve got you covered: What to Watch's Halloween Ends review calls it an "abysmal whimper" to end the recent trilogy, and we're not alone. As of October 14, the movie has a score of 43%, which classifies it as "Rotten," on Rotten Tomatoes. It's not any better over at Metacritic, where Halloween Ends scores a 45.again be slashing through Haddonfield (though hopefully not outer space) on the silver screen once again in the future when some filmmaker
