Description

The overall construction of this guitar is good for what is considered a beginner guitar. While it is made for beginners, it is a strong guitar that can last the usual wear and tear a guitar takes over several years. In fact, the C40’s low price and consistent quality has made it one of the most popular nylon string guitars in the world. It is a favorite among guitar teachers and their students.

USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year. Overall the playability is fine and, while nothing to rave about, is worth the price you’ll pay for the Yamaha C40. DisadvantagesThe beginner’s classical guitar: it is a time-honoured tradition indeed. The nylon string classical guitar is the first port of call for a great many budding guitarists: a trusty companion as they embark on a life-long lifestyle upgrade. Why classical? Well, nylon strings are more forgiving on the fingers, and make a pleasant, expressive sound, even in the early throes of learning. It doesn’t require too much effort to make them sound nice, and that’s half the battle in those early months or learning. Setting the action high gives the manufacturer a greater margin for error against imperfections in the fretboard. If the action is set too low, it can cause buzzing (where the strings rattle against the frets).

We’d actually recommend this as a sound choice for the travelling guitarist, too. No matter your skill level, you’ll have fun with this downsized gem, and it’s easier to bring around with you, whether on public transport, in the hotel room, kept in the boot of the car etc. The Yamaha CS40 is just a handy thing to have in general! If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows: Yamaha have opted to include the pricier wood on this budget model, and it makes a big difference to the looks and playability. Bought thos for my son who played classical guitar in high school and who is legally blind. Though he's been playing piano as of late I know he still loves the guitar. So I bought him the Yamaha C40II classical nylon string guitar. I'm not a guitar player but drummer but been around lots of guitars. But I can play a few simple chords, so I know what a good and bad guitar sounds & looks like construction wise. This guy is excellent to start off with, it's a full scale so if you have small or petite hands I suggest you move down to 3/4 scale. A beginner’s guitar should be the right size and easy to play. If the guitar is too hard to play, a beginner is more likely to give up.Experienced players reading this blog will not be surprised to learn that we regard the Yamaha C40 as the ultimate nylon string choice for beginners. This guitar has held the top spot in this category for many years now, due to the simple factors of quality construction, a good sound and an easy playing feel. The Yamaha C40 has a traditional classical guitar sound that’s great for the beginner or casual intermediate player. It is not quite as loud as other classical guitars because of the laminate wood and it isn’t as rich sounding as other guitars.

The rosewood fretboard felt great under the fingers, and for us was one of the biggest highlights of the whole guitar. We were also impressed by the finish on the fret edges – there were no sharp edges, burrs, or any sign of fret sprout, all things that regularly occur on guitars at this price point, but Yamaha’s QA has been extremely effective in this area. i bought a C40 had to return it next day, fretbuzz was a crazy even with very high action. provided thomann with a video of a B chord sounding very bad. Both CG104A's to my dismay display exactly the same fretbuzz on A and D, as the C40s im reviewing here - and are being returned. The Yamaha C40 is a nice looking guitar that fits your standard classical guitar appearance. It has very few factors that make it stand out but still look quite nice when you first see it. The simplicity is charming and fits the beginner market it was designed for. A beginner wouldn’t be able to tell that the sound is weak and low, but someone with experience playing a more expensive classical guitar would. The Yamaha C40 full nylon-string classical guitar was designed with beginners in mind but isn’t a bad option for players outside of that range who are looking for an affordable guitar. It is a high-quality instrument that looks good, sounds great and is made by the experts at Yamaha, who began making guitars in 1940. C40s have a low-midrange sound, not much definition on high frets on the nylon strings, as expected. If you have been playing guitar for a long time and have more of a professional ear on you, you will notice that this guitar sounds more muted and doesn’t project as well as some guitars. Pros I’ve read some people criticize the quality of the guitar strings that come with the C40. This is like buying a new car and criticizing the polish. You’ll need to change strings regularly as they wear, just as you need to wash your car to keep it clean.
