Vogue Knitting, The Ultimate Knitting Book, by the Editors of Vogue Knitting Magazine, is a huge and wonderful book for your knitting library. brand new design and construction chapters for accessories which the reader is going to be delighted and dazzled by. Hattie is a comics scholar and obsessive reader from Brighton(ish) but living in Glasgow, Scotland where she is working towards a PhD in Canadian Studies, more specifically about Québécois comics and politics. Mostly she reads comics about other peoples’ lives because she’s nosy like that. She is an enthusiastic, if not experienced, seamstress and could win Olympic Gold Medals if only Procrasti-Sewing and Procrasti-Baking were recognised sports. A not insignificant percentage of her free time is spent worrying about whether her cats like her as much as she likes them. She is resident Quebec Comics Monkey over at Graphixia where she likes to lay claim to being more Canadian than she really is. The book opens with a Table of Contents and information about the original and current editions of the book, including bios of the teams that brought them the life. The Special Features of This Book explains that the book is color coded and provides an overview of the contents. The table of contents is color coded, just like the chapters of the book. It has tip boxes and technique boxes to enhance the reader's understanding.

Basic Techniques, which explores how knitting “works,” and includes written and illustrated instructions for holding the needles, 25 cast on methods, the knit and purl stitches and all of the basic combinations, as well as joining yarn, increasing, decreasing, and binding off; If you have an interest in knitting OR simply don’t have this book yet, this is a great tool to have on hand for all those little questions that pop up during a new project. From scarves to hats to sweaters and more “Vogue Knitting” answers all the questions. One of the reasons I enjoy knitting so much is that it gives me a chance to browse a different type of book, a functional one, one that will help me create something. This has only increased over recent years as knitting books have moved further away from simply collections of patterns for the knitter, towards a place where creators muse on the politics and meaning of knitting. Like reading Nigel Slater’s Christmas Chroniclesor sinking deep into Samin Nosrat’s Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat, there are people out there like Karie Westermann writing fascinating meditations on knitting, craft, feminism, and politics in her book This Thing of Paper that show the true power of knitting as a political and feminist act. Stitch ‘n Bitchis a fun place to start your knitting journey off. It is friendly and accessible and the instructions are easy to follow. Knitters Book of Knowledgeby Debbie BlissKaffe Fassett creates the most beautiful designs using gloriously bright colours, and Rowan’s Kaffe’s Colours is no exception. This collection of garments to knit looks like it would be great fun and inject some much needed color into the dreary winter season. Milarrochy Heids by Kate Davies I have not read every single word in this book, but I still think it's a great resource for those who like making their own knitting patterns or knitting freestyle

This book changed my mind about the Vogue label. I half expected a lot of gloss and advertisements. Was I ever wrong and surprised? This book is well-designed and informative. The pictures are clear, and the variety is astounding. If you ever dream about going beyond Afghans this is the book to inspire you. I will buy these knitting books because I want to knit ALL of the things… Knitwear Design WorkshopbyShirley Paden The ultimate knitting reference, from the world’s most recognized knitting magazine, gets a thorough update—including 1,600 color images and brand-new sections with techniques and designs! as well as in depth sections on brioche, entrelac, double knitting and mosaic knitting. As well, there areKnitting Books for Advanced Knitters Cast On, Bind Off: 54 Step-by-Step Methodsby Leslie Ann Bestor This is an extremely helpful book for someone learning how to knit. I've been using it to give me an idea of what sorts of things I don't know but need to know (this book helps with the "I don't know what I don't know"). The illustrations are only sort of helpful; I mostly just use the information in the book to look up YouTube videos on the techniques. This book is much more comprehensive than most knitting books geared to beginners, and even though I am only a beginner knitter, I would imagine that even more experienced knitters would enjoy learning the advanced techniques. Pictures and sections within the book are well delineated and easy to read - important if you need to find something in a hurry. Designing Sweaters, which takes you through all aspects of sweater design from conceptualization through adding details like shoulder pads or linings; Circular Knitting, which provides an overview of knitting in the round with helpful photographs for using circular needles, double pointed needles, two circular needles, and the magic loop methods, along with the jogless join, steeking, and Moebius knitting;

Kaffe’s Coloursby Kaffe Fassett Color Knitting, which includes stranded knitting, intarsia, vertical and horizontal stripes, slip stitches, mosaic knitting, short row color knitting, and plaid knitting, along with tips for working with bobbins and reading charts; This book clearly can't cover all cast ons and bind off's as seen in another popular reference either and I wouldn't expect it to unless it ran to a considerably larger book.Embellishments, which shows how to embellish your knits with embroidery, beads, sequins, and other extras; and Another Kate Davies book here, Yokes. One day I will be skilled enough to make one (or all) of these gorgeous tops…one day… Correcting Errors, which includes written and illustrated instructions for troubleshooting everything from dropped stitches to mending holes; I would say that this is an excellent reference for new knitters, who haven't yet acquired a knitting library (whether general reference, technique, or both), or for experienced knitters who likewise don't have a knitting library and are looking to start one with a solid foundation. For those who have do have an extensive library, and have a variety of the above two types of books, this may be fairly redundant. Directional Knitting, which covers entrelac (both flat and in the round), modular knitting, bias knitting, and center-out knitting (including squares, circles, stars, and other geometric shapes);
