While the Lionsgate standard-def DVD featured a trio of Video Essays (including the indispensable but sadly absent 45-minute "From Book to Screen"), only one is carried over here. Based on the controversial novel, the film offers a sharp satire to the dark side of yuppie culture in the '80s, while setting forth a vision that is both terrifying and chilling. In 1987, twentysomething Wall Street broker Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) seems to have it all: he is handsome, successful and engaged to the beautiful Evelyn (Reese Witherspoon). It is very rare we get a distaff perspective on the horror genre, so even if you only listen to Harron's commentary, it's worth it. Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) is a Wall Street yuppie, obsessed with success, status, and style, with a stunning fiancée (Reese Witherspoon).

While many of the references may be culturally dated, the film's satire is just as biting as it ever was. Blu-ray A Uncut Version America- Lions Gate Home Entertainment - No cuts – Unrated version (102:02). The one universal truth remains that you’ll never think of Huey Lewis’ song “Hip To Be Square” any other way after watching this zany, psychological horror film. It certainly wasn't because 'Psycho's anti-hero Patrick Bateman was a serial killer fond of sexually assaulting and chopping up beautiful young women.

next thing I noticed about this 4K UHD version is the clear uptick in detail levels from the 1080p Blu-ray. The extras that appeared on Universal's original DVD editions of 'American Psycho' do not appear here; Lionsgate tossed them aside on their recent standard-def release as well, though, so that's not much of a surprise. In all my years of watching interviews and listening to commentaries, I have never encountered a human being as irritating or disagreeable as Guinevere Turner.

The documentaries, featurettes, interviews, deleted scenes, and deleted scenes commentary are in English with optional German subtitles.Turner certainly wins points for her biting critiques, such as an intriguing comparison of today's indie movie scene with the greed and excess satirized in 'Psycho. Taken as a whole it's probably not the best or most aggressive Atmos mix ever released, but it works beautifully for this film offering up plenty of sonic treats. Well things do go bump in the night here in both the score and the “Hip To Be Square” soundtrack, but also the chainsaw, gunshots and even explosions near the film’s end when Bateman’s brain is seemingly melting. This sparks off a descent into violence and madness, with Patrick embarking on a bloody and random killing spree.
