Description

The bud-wakening power of keiki paste isn’t just about propagation. Add some to buds on bonsai trees to encourage growth in a particular direction, to the lateral buds on the stems of leggy plants to make them bushier, even on the unfurling buds of new orchid stems prior to flowering to encourage these to branch out into sprays, thus giving you loads more flowers. First, select ‘nodes’ to apply the Keiki paste to. Nodes are parts of the plant where new leaves emerge from. Keiki paste contains growth hormones that give the dormant buds a boost.

First we need to locate a node on the orchid flower stem. If you run your hands along the stalk you'll feel a bump every couple inches. These bumps are the nodes and they look kind of like joints where the stalk merges together. There are several nodes on each flower stem and each node should work with keiki paste. In my experience nodes closer to the base of the plant are more likely to result in a keiki while nodes closer to the flowers are more likely to result in a new flower stalk so choose one, two (or three) nodes based on what your ideal outcome is. Before applying the paste, peel off the leafy sheath that protects the dormant bud. The bud may be tiny but, if it’s there, it has potential to grow. We are happy to offer this miraculous cloning product that is both fun and effective for "making" new orchids. Keikis are baby orchids and this formula makes it easy to create a new keiki either from the base or from a node on a bloom spike ( more typical ). The new baby will be genetically identical to the parent or source plant, and it is about the simplest way we know of to get a new baby just like the original. The chemical BAP, according to a biotechnological company, is a skin, lung and eye irritant. It can even cause damage for some and may accentuate any pre-existing dermatitis condition. Entry into the bloom-stream via open cuts, abrasions or lesions may produce systemic injury with harmful effects. When inhaled, it can cause lung damage. – Improper disposal can disrupt marine life Adventitious buds on the stem of a crown-damaged Phalaenopsis frequently respond to the application of plant regulators because the root development is active and supportive for a plant attempting to survive fungal, bacterial or animal damage.

We are not only going to put it on our Phalaenopsis orchid but also apply the cloning paste on several other plants: Indeed, there is cytokinin in coconut water ( not coconut milk) which is the liquid endosperm. But can we really use coconut water as a replacement for keiki paste for its cytokinin? So, the problem with natural sources is that sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It is really a shot in the dark. Even though some people may claim success for growing keikis after applying coconut water, it may not work a second time. There are just too many variables, compared with a synthetic hormone produced under controlled laboratory conditions. Your orchid has cytoki

With the correct application of the product, after 10-15 days the plant will form a new growth bud if a “bare” section of the shoot was treated or if it forms a new shoot or peduncle while processing an existing bud. If we talk about orchids, then only this tool gives one hundred percent confidence that the “offspring” will be formed. The science behind the propagation by stem cuttings is complex, associated with growth inhibitors, hormones and chemical reactions. But it is generally believed that when a plant is under stress for survival and is no longer under growth inhibitors from the mother plant, it would try to use the meristems to clone itself to preserve the genome. Plants are living organisms that require proper care to grow healthy and strong. They need water, sunlight, and nutrients to survive, but sometimes even the best care is not enough. That’s where Keiki Paste comes in. This special paste can help plants grow new roots and leaves, making them healthier and more resistant to diseases and pests. In this article, we’ll explore what Keiki Paste is, how it works, and how to use it to keep your plants thriving. What is Keiki Paste? There are several important things to get right to increase your chance of growing a keiki. Plant Age Counting from the base of the flower stalk, apply the paste to bud number 2 or 3 or 4. We do this because the first bud is least likely to produce babies and the fifth bud is most likely to produce a new branch—if anything. The shortcut to multiplying your orchid (instead of germination) is through keikis. A ‘keiki’ is like a ‘baby’ of the orchid. It’s a new growth in the orchid, with its own leaves and roots, growing from the stem (‘basal keiki’) or spike (‘keiki’). It’s the identical clone of the ‘mother’ plant. If you have a favorite orchid though, then maybe it would be a good idea to clone it. This way if something happens to it, then you have a double of it! Just in case.

Keep in mind with the paste that little goes a long way. So if there are several jar sizes to choose from, just go with the smallest amount! That will last you a long time. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR A KEIKI TO GROW Start with a healthy pothos plant that’s at least one foot (30 cm) long. The plant should be at least a year old for best results, especially if it’s grown from single node cuttings. Probably not and it is always a good idea to try, especially to save valuable plants. Plant Hormones Canada has put a priority on propagation and conservation of species and hybrid orchids, but its methods are applicable to many species and hybrids of many genera. For example, Jim Brasch reports that even cactus and other ornamental plants can be propagated and conserved by the application of plant regulators. Be sure to let us know about your adventures into this new development in imaginative gardening! Southside Plants develop Crazy Keiki Cloning Paste. They use the known hormones and vitamins in their paste to induce cloning. You get step-by-step instructions to grow your own Keikis on orchids.

When to Repot Orchid Keiki?

After applying the Keiki Cloning Paste on a semi-dormant node, these are our results. Without the cloning paste application, we are sure that no growth point would have developed from the applied node. It’s best to wait for the Keiki to develop leaves and to grow roots of at least an inch long before cutting it carefully away from the main plant. If possible, the Keiki should be left until the leaves and roots are two to three inches long. Place a tiny amount of the paste on the central whorl of a rare begonia leaf and a baby will pop up right there, without the risk of removing leaves to make cuttings or damaging plant health. Do you have one of those crazy-expensive variegated aroids like monstera or philodendron, or carnivorous plants like nepenthes that you want to make a perfect copy of? Add some keiki paste to one of the dormant nodes – as close as possible to growth level – and watch it come to life. If you don’t have clingfilm or moss, you can even just leave the spike standing in a jar of water!) According to a study on the effects of BAP on banana shoots (Pereira et al., 2018), different concentrations of the hormone will produce a different number of shoots. The number of shoots increases from 1 to 3 shoots per plant when the concentration goes from 1mg/L to 2.5mg/L.
