As a first attempt at releasing FIFA on Switch, EA has nailed the look and feel and given us a brilliant console and (more notably) handheld game. Switch so far has nothing i would want, only xeno in the foreseeable future, hopefully all that will change further down the line, but not for now, for me anyways.

With missing game/online features (In reality FIFA only lasts for me because I can play vs my friends and family online) it is just not the "BEST" fifa available. If the game had all features like ps4, I guess they would be singing it's praises as a full blown home console version with added bonus of wiping your ass with it anywhere. And thank you to EA for supporting the SWITCH - We all know that as a platform matures - the resources and skills available and learned by the developers improves. With FIFA Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Switch Kick Off, and Local Seasons, FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch offers fans more depth in modes than any other portable console. Reduced PresentationAlso reported by Kotaku, the actual environmental detail of the game has been reduced as compared to other versions. In the case of a game that's released on multiple consoles - especially one that receives periodical releases - one of the most useful bits of information you can provide is how the game compares to its equivalents on other systems.

In FIFA 18 on Switch, you can't play online with friends, and I personally lay the blame at Nintendo's feet. Perhaps they have the game for any other platform and they just compare the features that are included or not on each version? We’re delivering the immersive and authentic experience that fans expect from FIFA, while leveraging innovative ways to play both at home and on the go with Nintendo Switch. The Switch Ultimate Team is a separate entity to the Xbox One and PS4 versions, so even though all three versions require you to create an EA Account to save your squads online, each edition's teams are completely different. Any comparative limitations in graphical power are easily compensated by the ability to lift your career mode from the dock and keep playing on the go. The vast majority of players look like their real-life counterparts and the kits, stadia and even the crowd look good. Think the review was so busy telling us about what features PS4 and XB1 have, they overlooked HD Rumble as a consideration?

FIFA tends to lag behind PES in this regard on all systems, but it's honestly pretty terrible looking when docked on Switch. Until Konami pull the trigger this is the only choice football fans have so far and it plays a decent game of football. Described as a “custom” version of FIFA, the best way to look at the Switch version of FIFA 18 is that it’s almost the same as FIFA 16 elsewhere, with a few minor tweaks and the current squads/kits and all that good stuff. Of course, while the Switch does have a built-in friends list, it currently lacks an expansive online service, as Nintendo delayed the Switch’s paid online network to 2018. Squad Battles tasks players on other platforms with playing a set of games to earn points and climb leaderboards, while Weekend League offers weekend tournaments with great prizes.Whether or not this is a deal breaker for you is down to personal taste, but we imagine that it will compromise the experience for a great many FIFA addicts. From the camera jumping during set pieces, button prompts remaining on screen, random collisions (due to the dated animation engine), the yielding of random yellow cards to the bizarre blue/yellow imprint on some of the Huddersfield Town players during a match against Tottenham Hotspur, this game could certainly do with patching. But again my counter argument is that this is a handheld, predominantly for playing when you’re out and about on public transport or holiday or what have you, quick 20 and 30 minute blasts here and there.

If you are OK with it being cut-back then it’s essential, as long as you didn’t want to play online with friends. In fact, FIFA for Switch is a triumph, a validation of Nintendo’s vision: that, much like smartphones, consoles are increasingly all the same, separated by a few small differences in looks and power. At this very moment there's still only 3 reviews on Metacritic, none from any renowned sites besides NL. With a variety of controller and display configurations available, as well as split Joy-Con™ support, FIFA 18 on the Nintendo Switch offers a responsive and engaging gaming experience – no matter how you play. Yes, it's missing a few bits here and there from the other versions, but as a Nintendo fan, I don't care.

Celebrate The World's Game in EA SPORTS F Although its (slightly less silky-smooth) cutscenes and other close-up moments reveal that the character models are a good deal less detailed than their Xbox One and PS4 counterparts, squint a bit during normal gameplay and you’d genuinely struggle to tell the difference. It's at 72% on Metacritic and would be even lower if it weren't for certain sites artificially inflating its score.
