To fully exploit the combination you do have to have all your music sources connected to the Elicit, in my case that's pretty simple a SACD player. When I want to play music from the SACD player I only have the Elicit fired up and it acts as it should a pure analogue amp driving the R300s. Switchmode power supply is part of the reason for very low power consumption – only 0.4 Watt in stand-by mode. And the amplifier displays an impressive efficiency of 70%. In unison the high-efficiency amplifier section and power supply construction generate an absolute minimum of heat loss. For that reason you will find no external heat sink on this subwoofer. SVS PB2000 (PC2000) still outperforms (under 25hz) XTZ 1x12 / 12.17 and BK Mono+ if one is after the ultimate performance which i doubt in Harkon`s case... Arendal Sub1 is sealed model so it`s not a fair fight against PC2000. Harkon`s room is small so Arendal S1 or SB2000 "might" be enough there, some room gain helping them to dig really low. Prices should be very near each other. It would be nice to have CEA numbers from Arendal to compare it to SVS. SB2000 -3db 19hz, Arendal Sub1 -6db 18hz measured. But the bigger Arendal might have output advantage ~30hz upwards.. I have a feeling the Arendal guys knows how it compares to SVS as LSound sold both at same time.. To improve sound reproduction in general, and to ensure that this subwoofer is able to perform under difficult circumstances, a limiter has been incorporated in the amplifier section. The SUB E-9 features a 9” woofer, capable of moving lots of air with power and precision. The cone is made from pure aluminum for maximum stiffness and a becoming exterior. Furthermore, the heavy magnet system wields a massive 4-layer, long-stroke voice coil.

Wow, what a difference! In the much smaller space, each sub reproduced deeper bass response that I could feel in my sternum; it shook the house." I would like to start by saying that I think the Leak Stereo 130 is an excellent choice for the basis of a stereo system. Leak was one of the very early legendary audio companies. It's great that they have been resurrected. Magnetsystemet er særdeles solidt dimensioneret og ventileret, så både varmeudvikling og forvrængning holdes nede. Og helt i tråd med DALIs hæderkronede low-loss-princip er membranophænget designet til lang og uhindret vandring, så lyden bliver optimal ved både højt og lavt volumen. It has been designed so that the DALI SUB C-8 D subwoofer works just as well with music and movies. The SUB C-8 D is anything from a boombox because it has an 8″ down-firing woofer that is strong and detailed. The Dali sub C8D has a built-in Class-D digital amplifier and can deliver a massive 170 watts, with peaks of up to 220 watts. This low distortion amplifier delivers a strong, well-balanced sound to the bass cone that fills even the largest rooms. The C-8 D is melodic and quite capable of getting (very) loud. You get the punch you want from action movies, but the C8D is deft enough to let you hear the various textures of a bass guitar rather than just a single one-note bass boom while listening to music. I have owned a PowerNode 2i, and found it to be far more capable than I expected, so well worthy of audition.

Final Words

One more question about the R3s, do I need to toe them in, or can they be forward firing (like Dali’s) with room correction, etc.? I have a 5m x 4m room. It's styled modern so room acoustics are poor. Porcelain tiles floor, L-shaped leather lounge against the wall, and a rug in the middle. Aluminium blinds on windows and a concrete ceiling 2.8m high. The wall where the TV sits is 3m long and is more of a dividing wall with 1.2m openings on either side to the rest of the open plan entrance/ dining, and kitchen area.

Speaker-wise, the LS50 Meta (which I've had) are very good, but they're fussy about placement and I didn't find them as 'alive' sounding as the Q series. If there's any young fingers around be aware that grilles are not available for this model or the LSX. I listened to the Kef LS50 but wasn’t impressed tbh. A bit dull and lifeless in comparison to the Dalis. The demo is this week and the retailer will pair them with the Cyrus One HD - their only mid sized option within my budget. Other options I will try to test are the Bluesound Powernode and the Rega Brio. With Denon/Marantz av-receiver you also get the room correction (XT32) for speakers/sub, bass management, lot of cool features which may come handy. You can start with 2.1 and then add center channel later. Some people will go in-ceiling surrounds if not possible other way. Av-receiver would keep things open for future. You can still add 2ch integrated amp later if needed. It can sound complicated but it's really not and it does work seamlessly. The 3600 also benefits because it is no longer driving the R300s and the that saved power is distributed to the remaining speakers connected to the 3600. Fitted with controls for gain, cut-off frequency, and phase, the DALI SUB E-9 F will adapt to any front speaker and room acoustics. All in all, the heavy-duty abilities of this “motor system” ensure that the woofer always follows the signal from the amplifier!
