Maximum audio resolution with Sennheiser Signature Sound: Enjoy premium music quality all-day long thanks to the headphone's audiophile-inspired 42mm transducer system and aptX Adaptive. The Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless are some of the very best-sounding, longest-lasting and the most comfortable noise-cancelling headphones available. The Sony WF-1000XM5 buds have the same eight-hour battery life as the WF-1000XM4s that came before them with an additional two charges from the case. This is good for the market, but you are limited to a day's worth of listening, so make sure you have that charging case with you. Cabin pressure is also significantly reduced. With the Momentum 3, the pressure though is not too bad is noticeable and does alter the sound. The Momentum 4 Wireless suffers from virtually no pressure and the sound remains consistent throughout the adaptation and cancellation. This isn’t to say that the Sennheiser headphones underwhelm – they’re strong when dealing with crowd noise, hushing voices, as well as handling traffic on a busy day in central London just fine. They impress in a variety of environments. But whether listening in their ANC or Adaptive modes, the Bose and the Sony deliver a quieter performance; there remains a degree of ambient noise that I can hear through the Sennheisers. The clarity of the Transparency mode is very clear and detailed, up there with the best, and doesn’t affect the quality of the audio.

Lastly, let’s talk about the cabin pressure caused by the ANC. Well, if there was any I’d gladly give my opinion however the Momentum 4 Wireless has ZERO added pressure introduced by the ANC. If there was any, my ears did not feel it, nor did they hear ANY change or alteration to the sound. Bravo Sennheiser, mine and other’s sensitive ears truly thank you! One can now listen to their music while cancelling out noise in complete comfort. The headphones got delivered with the newest firmware already installed. Which is a big plus. Connecting the headphones to my phone was as easy as it gets. The Android app also works without any problems. Only thing I don't like is the need to make an account for the custom EQ thing.Sony WF-1000XM5 vs Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 don't have fantastic battery life. But then again, that's to be expected from the true wireless buds space these days when we're dealing with such advanced sound and ANC on the inside. Charging time - Approx. 2 hrs for full charge; 5 min charging for up to 4 hrs playtime; Remark: Ambient temperatures >30°C may lead to extended charging times Users have reported experiencing a drop in mic audio quality via USB. We have retested Recording Quality, but the scoring of this test hasn't changed. Looking at the specs, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 are very similar to the Sony set as they also boast three mics per earbuds for the all-important ANC. Granted, they haven't won any awards for the best ANC true wireless earbuds you can buy, but most people would be more than satisfied with this level of immersion on offer. What we're saying is, the difference between the two pairs of buds when it comes to ANC is likely going to be negligible. The Momentum 3 sound like the listener is front and centre right up against the stage, while the Momentum 4 Wireless sound as if you are in the venue’s sweet spot. Not only does this allow for a greater sense of holographic space, it allows the sound be breathe, creating an out-of head experience with far more accurate detail and resolve.

Considering that most notes in music live in the bass and mids, a flat response here—all notes roughly the same volume—means that your music will reflect how the producer mixed the sound more than how your speakers affect the sound on their own. This is really great for those of you who don’t want their skulls rattled by bass, and those who want to hear more details in their music. The Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless is one of the best true wireless earbuds in this regard, but not everyone likes this sound. If you like strong bass overemphasis, these in-ears aren’t for you. Mids, highs But, as you know, nothing is eternal and last year Sennheiser – due to some financial(?) difficulties – had to split its business and sold the consumer/audiophile section to Sonova – another giant company, that specializes in hearing-aids – while keeping the professional section for itself, aka Neumann and HD-25.

How do you control Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 Wireless?

At normal volume levels the Momentum 4 Wireless can sound a little reserved and within themselves, but as seems to be case with many wireless headphones, raising the volume opens them up. Once a volume level has been found, the Sennheisers sound poised and precise. In terms of comfort, this new design doesn't initially look that well padded, but what cushioning there is is more than sufficient because the relatively wide headband does a great job of distributing pressure across your crown so that nothing wears heavily or pinches, even after several hours of wear. And the clamping force is good, but not aggressively so. Much improved! To give you a good perspective I will compare how well I, or shall I say I don’t, hear the sound of a diesel bus engine while seated. With the Momentum 3 the sound of the engine is present but veiled. I can still hear the midrange sound of the engine but the deep rumble and high pitched whine was attenuated. With the Momentum 4 Wireless that same Diesel engine sounded like an electric motor. What little sound I did hear mostly came through my arse to my ears via the seat. As for electric/hybrid busses, the sound was gone! In fact, the only sound I did hear appeared to be the sound of the tires on the asphalt, and even that was at a minimum! The Momentum 4 Wireless come bearingBluetooth 5.2, which means they can simultaneously connect to multiple Bluetooth devices and switch between them more easily –there's a nice connection management tab in the app to see your devices. There’s also support for apt X and aptX Adaptive, aka one of the newest and best Bluetooth codecs around. Sonically – where are we? With the old, wonderful Sennheiser values. There is no effect-heavy show here, but basic audiophile virtues. Competitors like to spice up the bass – Sennheiser relies on a decent fundament refraining from any exaggeration. Because a fat bass would also kill a lot of information in the midrange. We experienced highest transparency, some analytical resolution and an amazing pace. Everything about the Momentum 4 feels light. Like a sports car made of high-tech materials.

You can also manually adjust how much outside sound is let in with a slider in the app or the pinching-to-zoom gesture on the headphones adjusting from maximum noise-cancelling to full transparency, so you can have as little or as much awareness of the outside world as you prefer. The following test groups have been updated following TB 1.6: Wired Connection, Bluetooth Connection, and Wireless Connection (Dongle). My main reason for getting the Bluetooth headphones is for meetings and phone calls (working from home most of the time) plus the mobility. Therefore, Bluetooth connectivity and sound clarity are more important to me. Market Competition: A new release could help Sennheiser stay competitive by offering an up-to-date product that can match or surpass rivals’ offerings in terms of features, quality, and performance.

How is the build quality of the MOMENTUM True Wireless?

Disclaimer: The Sennheiser Momentum 4 wireless was sent by the brand for the purpose of this review, in exchange of or unbiased opinion of course. Thanks to them! About Sennheiser

Using the headphones in passive mode (no battery in use, plugged in with the cable) is really the last use case for this model (and the intended customer use-case) The up-to-60-hours battery was implemented to constantly drive the DSP, which offers the best sound quality, even when ANC is on” The battery in the headphones is not replaceable but Sennheiser estimates it will maintain at least 80% of its original capacity after 30,000 hours of listening, which is 27 years of listening three hours a day, meaning it is never likely to need replacing. Soundstage - Perhaps the biggest change in sound that departs from the whole Momentum line would be the soundstage. With each revision, the Momentum’s soundstage got larger and larger, partly due to their size increase. But that’s about it, a BIGGER sound, but with no real refinement. The soundstage of the Momentum 4 Wireless is a complete overhaul and a stark departure from it’s siblings. Pros: fantastic sound, effective noise-cancelling, 60-hour battery life, super-comfortable, Bluetooth 5.2 with aptX Adaptive and multipoint, USB-C charging and audio, 2.5/3.5mm analogue cable, great controls, top voice quality, good cross-platform app. Thankfully, the V2 fixed many of those issues – especially the battery one – and kept the great sound offered by the V1. Then came the Momentum True Wireless 3, which gained a more streamlined shell, enhanced battery life, and a better ANC.Obviously the Momentum 3 has no touch controls, simply mundane 20th century technology called buttons. I do actually prefer the Momentum 3’s transparency button over the Momentum 4’s pinch. In my opinion it’s both easier to use and I like the tactile feel that lets me know what mode I am in. The only real design flourishes here are the fabric on the external aspect of the headband (available in two colorways) and Sennheiser's trademark S-in-a-rectangle branding at the base of the headband. It's demure to a fault, especially when those ear cups are devoid of any accent whatsoever – and it's the reason we removed half a star from the rating here. But if you'll only glance at the overall star-rating we awarded these excellent Sennheiser noise-cancelling over-ears, you'll see we forgave it all… Other than its predecessor, they are build out of plastic. This doesn't have to be bad. There is plastic and then there is plastic. My HD 580 Jubilee are also mostly made out of plastic and are still standing strong. I just hope, that the plastic used in the Momentum 4's can withstand sun exposure, because I'm mainly going to wear them out and about. Only time will tell.
