The Midwife of Auschwitz: Inspired by a heartbreaking true

My heart aches for the people subjected to such inhumane treatment. I really don't understand how they could treat another human being they way they did. Written by Maria Stachurska - the mother-in-law of footy ace Robert Lewandowski - director Mariusz Malec, and journalist and author Dagmara Leszkowicz, the film is based on the real life story of Stanisława Leszczyńska whose actions helped save newborns from immediate extermination. This book is wonderful for not having any harsh swear words in it, so would be suitable for older teens to read but with the trigger warnings that would be necessary for such topics. So they devise a plan to one day bring hope to these families. In the meantime, they help each other and provide strength to make it through.

Ester was a young nurse, who is Jewish, living and working in Lodz in Poland when she and her new husband Filip Pasternak along with their families were rounded up and rehoused in the new ghetto as the Germans overtook their town. Their house had been given over to the Germans to house troops while they now lived in barely two rooms all together. a b c d Matthew M. Anger (2005-01-04). What Leszczyńska discovered goes beyond any normal description of horror. Upon arrival, most pregnant women were simply sent to the gas chambers, others were summarily executed. Determined to save as many as possible, and at immense risk to her own life, Leszczyńska refused to take part saying she ‘would not be Herod to the innocents, she would respect the Hippocratic oath and not kill children.’ Gripping … completely heartbreaking … I couldn't put this one down , I read it in almost one sitting… Heart-wrenching ... I loved it .’ Upon arrival at the camp all Jewish children were immediately gassed to death and the babies of pregnant woman killed. Public domain When two guards in their chilling SS uniforms march in and snatch a blond-haired baby from its mother it's almost too much for Ana to bear. Consoling the distraught woman, Ana realises amidst the terrible heartache there is a glimmer of hope. The guards are taking the healthiest babies and placing them with German families, so they will survive. And there are whispers the war is nearly over... Ana and Ester begin to secretly tattoo little ones with their mother's numbers, praying one day they might be reunited. Although the rules concerning instant death were relaxed a little, it was marginal. Jewish babies were still killed straight after birth and it was only non-Jewish mothers, mainly Poles and Soviet women, who were allowed to lay with their new-born babies. My great-aunt used to say that for those people to do what they did they must have been pretty badly damaged. So, people of principle and values know how to control their emotions and not succumb to temptation.
