Description

Some really great nuggets of truth in here- basically a great reminder that the only person responsible for your success is you, and if you want something bad enough you’ll do anything to get it. Quit making excuses, work hard, etc. Grover explains that to access your primal self, you must indulge primal desires: things you impulsively want, but keep secret because society tells you to (like sex, drugs, or gambling). Indulging primal desires allows you to practice accessing your primal self even when relaxing, making it easier to access when seeking success in your field. And that last part, without sugar, is mind-blowing. I’ve been through a sugar detox and now my sugar intakes are almost gone, so I know that it’s as painful but necessary as he describes it.

To truly push and pressure yourself as hard as you can, Grover argues that you must follow the third principle behind the Unstoppable need to succeed: seeking success by any means necessary. Grover provides two methods for following this principle: making sacrifices and accepting discomfort. Part 3: The Unstoppable Direct Their Instincts I usually like books like this - inside stories about high achievers, sports stars and celebrities...but this just felt ingenious and monotonous. There's a lot of talk about Jordan, Briant and other NBA stars but you know it is appliable to any area of life..

PDF Summary Chapter 4: Use Any Means Necessary

Reframing success: Grover explains that success should increase the pressure you put on yourself instead of being an excuse to relax. The principle of constantly seeking improvement means that each success is merely a step on your path towards Unstoppable dominance in your field—not the destination. After each success, you'll have to set your sights on the next, larger success instead of relaxing. What is Tim Grover’s book Relentless about? How does Grover feel you can become the best version of yourself? I consider Tim Grover to be SECOND TO NONE in his knowledge of sports training, and an invaluable part of my training program.” –Michael Jordan Grover explains that fear of failure also makes the Good freeze up under pressure. Pressure causes the Good to focus on the possibility of failure instead of on what they’re trying to accomplish—in other words, they’ll freeze up because they overthink what they’re doing. Being a Cleaner has almost nothing to do with talent . Everyone has some degree of talent ; it doesn’t always lead to success . Those who reach this level of excellence don’t coast on their talent . They’re completely focused on taking responsibility and taking charge , whether they’re competing in sports or managing a family or running a business or driving a bus ; they decide how to get the job done , and then they do whatever is necessary to make it happen .

This book will do for you what Tim has done for me–take you to the next level, and show you how to be the best at whatever you do. I have unbelievable trust and faith in him.” –Dwyane Wade Are you playing in a team sport? You’re in charge of making sure your team wins the game. You own this. You got this. If you lose, own it. Tim Grover has a name for truly relentless people… Cooler, Closer, Cleaner “Cooler, Closer, Cleaner… good, great, unstoppable.” Even Michael used to say he had butterflies before a big game. ‘Get ‘em all going in the same direction.’ I’d tell him. ‘They're not going away, but now you’re controlling how you feel about them, instead of allowing them to make you feel nervous.’ Energy instead of emotion. Big difference.” Don't focus on what you can't do. Find out what you can do and put yourself in a system where you can succeed.

Grover’s argument here—that relentlessness is instinctual—is similar to that of “evolutionary psychology”: A framework that argues that human behavior is heavily influenced by instincts gained through evolution. However, scientists and scholars heavily debate the merits of evolutionary psychology. Its main critics argue that experiences or environment inspire behaviors more than instinct does. They also argue that it’s impossible to test the hypotheses of evolutionary psychology because even if researchers observe an expected behavior, there’s no way of knowing if instinct inspired it.
