Williams started his acting career in repertory theatre and worked with the Watford Palace Theatre, which was being run by Jimmy Perry, the creator of Dad's Army some years later. He was sentenced to three life sentences for what was branded by a judge 'the most heinous crime for a generation or more'.

Williams was born in Edgware, Middlesex, on 2 July 1931, to William Williams, a Welsh nonconformist, and his wife Alice (née Myles). Williams' parents both had learning difficulties, and his mother was a drug addict who smoked while she was pregnant. This book is a full portrait and makes it very clear that Kenneth Williams was much more that the Carry On character he played in twenty-nine movies. On October 3, 1999, less than a month after he was sentenced to life in prison, Williams escaped by going into the kitchen and hiding inside a 500-gallon barrel of pig slop that was taken out by a truck. The volumes sat there in his home and after Williams died it was Russell Davies that took on the job to condense it down to the book that we get to read. After training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, she was awarded the Lenin Prize for sculpture before fleeing the communist regime in 1967.

When the phone does not ring it can be a worrying time, as it seemed to be for Kenneth Williams, thinking about his tax bill or other bills that need paying.Williams stopped in his pre-teen years, saying "I reached the conclusion that being the offender doesn't give you any more advantage than being a victim. He then appeared in films such as: Inn for Trouble (1960), Just for Fun (1963), Hide and Seek (1964), Headline Hunters (1968), One of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing (1975), Jabberwocky (1977), What's Up Nurse! William Pettit Jnr in 1953: Pettit was wanted for questioning by the police after Renee Brown was found murdered on September 11, 1953 in a mushroom field in Chislehurst in Kent, now southeast London.

He was found guilty of two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder by poisoning in 1972. Williams was convicted of the murder he committed shortly after escaping prison and was sentenced to death. But the surprise is that the Kenneth Williams of these diaries emerges as erudite, self-critical, tortured and a brilliantly sharp critic. They were not lovers, but very close friends - and one wonders what their common interests would be? His sad end and a mystery around how his life ended (certainly at the time) is there for all to see.

The mugshots, originally taken in black and white, can now be seen in colour after they were retrospectively colourised. It is important that we continue to promote these adverts as our local businesses need as much support as possible during these challenging times. At the height of his Dad's Army fame, he had a cameo role in Monty Python's Flying Circus (1972), and later appeared as a record producer in the Rutles movie All You Need Is Cash (1978). Thursday 21st December, 1978 (package holiday in Tenerife with striking hotel workers): Made my own bed. Princess Anne beams as she officially opens equestrian college (and she can't resist making a fuss of the horses!

In response to the queries surrounding the execution of Williams and the three others before him, Hutchinson stated that he "absolutely made the right decision" to ensure the law run its course and fulfill the ends of justice. From his work with Hancock, Around the Horne and the like, the Carry On films, the voice overs, the theatrical performances, the chat shows, everything is covered in quite some detail. In December 2005, Williams pleaded guilty to capital murder, aggravated robbery, and theft of property for killing Jenkins and received another life sentence. This was my first experience of reading a set of personal diaries encompassing such a prolonged period of time and it’s a disorientating experience to see the weft of a life laid out in front of you so starkly. The daughter of one of the murdered policeman branded it an 'utter disgrace' and top policeman Bernard Hogan-Howe said 'life should have meant what it said'. I’d like to say Frank Skinner’s cleaned up his act now he’s a proud dad, moving away from his more risque material in a show of middle-aged respectability. The author does not gloss over William's rudeness, selfishness and unsociability and he reveals many of the kindly actions which have otherwise gone unnoticed. Nevertheless it is a fascinating read on what its like to be a British entertainer in the 50's through out the 80'.
