Description

Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce. Collects Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #1-42, Spectacular Spider-Man Annual (1979) #1, Amazing Spider-Man Annual (1964) #13, and Fantastic Four (1961) #218. This was a great recast of Spider-Man as a year-2000 teenager. Loved the way some of the familiar story beats were reframed. I know it isn't really fair to compare, but this retelling allowed them to improve on the original run on many levels. The storytelling is more condensed and more focused than Lee's original run. Highlights: Peter meeting Fury, the Kingpin, the battle with the Green Goblin seen from the goblin's perspective (trippy!). Venom. The second volume of Bendis’s character revamp on Spider-Man is just as solid as the first, with constant payoff to things built up over the course of several issues, pacing that puts the 60s to shame and changes that work and feel fresh yet familiar, he somehow finds the balance. Collects Star Wars: Mara Jade – By the Emperor’s Hand (1998) #0-6, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire – Evolution (1998) #1-5, Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Leader (2005) #1-3, Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron (1995) #1-35, Star Wars: X-Wing Rogue Squadron Special (1995) #1, Star Wars Handbook (1998) #1; and material from Star Wars Tales (1999) #10, 12, 15, 23.

Superstars (#66-71). Three team-ups that would really have fit better in Ultimate Team-Up (and there's a reason that series isn't making it into the omnibuses!). I really enjoyed with what they did with Carnage in this rendition. Each time I re-read it I forget some of the details and it just hooked me once again re-reading it.The artwork is terrible (so bad it's on here twice) to the point that they draw Peter Parker posing like a girl in his pants wtf! Collects Avengers vs. X-Men (2012) #0-12; Point One (2011) #1 (AVX story); AVX: Vs. I keep putting the costume on, don’t I? I keep putting my life in danger to help other people, and I swear to God I really have no idea why, I really don’t.” Collects Predator (1989) #1-4, Predator 2 (1991) #1-2, Predator: Big Game (1991) #1-4, Predator: Cold War (1991) #1-4, Predator: The Bloody Sands of Time (1992) #1-2, Predator: Bad Blood (1993) #1-4, Predator: Invaders from the Fourth Dimension (1994) #1, Predator: Dark River (1996) #1-4, Predator: Strange Roux (1996) #1, Predator: Kindred (1996) #1-4; and material from Dark Horse Presents (1986) #46, 119; Dark Horse Comics (1992) #1-2, 4-7, 10-14, 16-18, 20-21; and A Decade of Dark Horse (1996) #1.This omnibus is really good. Great story arcs, phenomenal writing, and awesome art from start to finish. Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion. Irresponsible (#40-45). A pretty low-key volumes of USM. It's got a great expanding relationship among Peter, Mary, and Gwen. And it's got an interesting look into May's life. The story of a pseudo-mutant gone bad doesn't hold up to the rest until the X-Men join in, and then that becomes pretty delightful too. Not one of the most amazing volumes of USM, but interesting [4/5].

Fifth, his internal monologues save pretty much any story, by turns undercutting the ridiculousness and pomposity of villains, breathing life into exposition, and just riffing off whatever came into the writer's head.
