Behemor gives you Str+2 AP-4 D2, with 4s to Hit MONSTERS and VEHICLES automatically wounding, making them decent at carving up big things as well as good all rounder profile, just watch out for -1 Dmg. From left-to-right: a member of the Kataphraktoi, three Terminator Armoured members of the Tharanatoi and three members of the Hykanatoi Near-immortal are the Adeptus Custodes, for the golden elixir of the Emperor's own blood runs in their veins. Though outwardly resplendent, there is a scar upon the soul of the Custodian Guard, an inescapable disgrace that has tainted their history and lives in the heart of every warrior, from fresh inductees to veterans over a thousand Terran years old. If your Detachment is Battle-Forged (which will be most armies) and only has ADEPTUS CUSTODES units in it, excluding ANATHEMA PSYKANA, AGENTS OF THE IMPERIUM or UNALIGNED , you’re a CUSTODES Detachment and get the following-

Praetorian Plate- A TERMINATOR gets a mighty +1T, and once per game they can appear within 3” of a friendly non- VEHICLE and in Engagement Range, effectively getting a boardwide Heroic Intervention, making for a potent surprise to the enemy as well as helping shore up a beleaguered part of your army.

How to start collecting Adeptus Custodes

With the Sanctum Imperialis secure under the vigil of the Companions, the crusaders are free to pursue the war of aggression they have long desired, putting into place war strategies perfected over the centuries through fractal thought exercises, cogitator-spawned algorithms, long study and even simulated conflicts waged in hallucinariums. These give the Custodians a tactical edge that allows them to counter the enemy's actions before they have begun. If you’d rather learn a little about all the 40k races, try our overall Warhammer 40k factions guide – but, if you’re looking to start an Adeptus Custodes army, or simply want to know more about who they are in the game’s ever-evolving story, read on. They hold few voidships of their own, but could command by edict any such vessel of the Imperialis Armada or later Imperial Navy to their task, and in fact requisition anyone or anything within the Imperium in extremis to serve their most sacred and undaunted task; the protection of the Emperor and His works from all the foes of Humanity. Whether serving as part of a detachment acting as the destroyers of some ill-fated foe, or tasked as a bodyguard for the Emperor or some element of His household, or even where a handful of Custodians might be deployed to act as the personal protectors of an Imperial emissary or Lord Militant, they are tireless, vigilant and remorseless. The operative would still count as performing the action for all rules purposes. For example, if it performed it during its activation, it would not be able to perform the action again during that activation. At the climax of the Horus Heresy, the Custodian Guard fought monstrosities without number, for those in the Traitor Legions powerful enough to reach the gates of the Imperial Palace were twisted body and soul by the baleful gifts of Chaos. A thousand victories were won by the Custodian Guard, but they all turned to ash when the Master of Mankind teleported aboard Horus' flagship, the Vengeful Spirit, at the height of the Siege of Terra. There, a strike force of Legio Custodes fought the fiercest of Traitors to protect their master. They were found wanting.

Vigil Unending- Fight on death with a CUSTODES CHARACTER , provided they have not already fought that phase. Useful to ensure you get to inflict damage on your way out, especially in protracted combats or if caught flat footed by Fight Last abilities or being Charged. Does cost 2CP, so consider whether an interrupt is better in a given scenario. However you like to play, you’ll find Relics that support your strategies and being able to take two of them** in your army opens up some real tactical flexibility.

Adeptus Custodes tactics

Teleport Homer- A TELEPORT HOMER unit (ie, Terminators) can redeploy to within 3” of a VEXILUS or ALEYA that didn’t arrive from Reinforcements this turn, and 9” away from enemies. For 1 CP it’s cheap enough to be used to get some extra movement and threat range out of an ALLARUS unit, be it storming forward as fast as possible with ALEYA , or coming in to support a lone VEXILUS . The usual limit of 9” away from enemies does hinder this a fair bit however, so this might not come up as often as you’d think. Being Captain-General is a heavy responsibility for any shoulders, even the metres-wide set you’ll find on a Custodian. Not only is Trajann Valoris responsible for the defence of the Sol System, Terra, the Imperial Palace, and the Emperor, he also oversees the actions of all Custodes, planning their sorties and missions personally. If that wasn’t all, he’s also a High Lord of Terra, bringing governance of the Imperium into his daily role. The Legio Custodes were the first genetically and psychologically altered creations created by the Emperor, predating even the Thunder Warriors (the hulking proto-Space Marines that would be his final instrument in conquering Terra). The warriors of the Legio Custodes were fierce creations, each towering over baseline humans, and possessing many qualities that made them stronger, faster, more intelligent, longer lived, and just plain better than their normal human cousins.

One of the absolute pleasures of playing Warhammer 40k is the models. Simply owning these creations, getting to build them and then lovingly daub them in your chosen colour scheme, is a joy. No matter your skill at any of the above, these models are created with such care, with so many intricate details, that you’re sure to find some pleasure in even the simple act of owning them. The origins of the Custodian Guard are shrouded in myth and legend. The ancient Legio Custodes were the bodyguards and sworn protectors of the Emperor and His chosen emissaries, and when the need arose, His most deadly executioners. Genetically engineered warriors of unswerving loyalty and unshakable purpose, their might and skill-at-arms was greater even than the Space Marines of the ancient Legiones Astartes, while their weapons and wargear were uniquely potent, representing the apex of the Imperium's technology. Their history is a long one, and for centuries they have walked in the Emperor's shadow as His praetorians and the protector of His secrets. The codex also brought the Sisters of Silence – anti-psykers extraordinaire, and historic allies of the Custodes in the so-called ‘Talons of the Emperor – into the Adeptus Custodes codex for the first time, with rules to fight alongside the boys in gold. explode’ essentially translates to ‘An unmodified 6 to Hit does an additional hit’, so read that as ‘Does 2 Hits instead of 1’. Per the Core Rules, anything that might also happen on a 6 to hit (such as auto-wounding) does not apply to the additional hit, only the original.

Exploring Adeptus Custodes models

The Adeptus Custodes are the Auric Mortalis ("The Golden Death"), the dread guardians and only living beings permitted to be in the presence of the Emperor unencumbered. Now ensconced deep within the Sanctum Imperialis of the Inner Palace on Terra, they continue their eternal watch over the recumbent form of the Emperor upon the Golden Throne. It is not an uncommon belief to suppose the Custodian Guard were themselves some variant of the Astartes -- if so crude a term might be applied, an "advanced" form, perhaps even a second, improved iteration. While this explanation might seem to fit the facts, particularly to those without intimate knowledge of the Imperium's birth pains during the final acts of the Unification Wars on Old Earth, it could not be further from the truth. The new Adeptus Custodes was generally well received, adding more customisable combat rules – in the form of Martial Ka’tah battle stances– togive players of thelow-model count, ultra-elite Custodes army more gameplay choices and make their handful of warriors operate in a more distinctive and deadly fashion.
