Kasabian review, The Alchemist's Euphoria: Departure of Tom Meighan hasn't dimmed electro-rockers' energy". New single ‘Scriptvre’ arrives in the wake of their snappy track ‘Alygatyr’ and heralds a brave new world from Serge’s magic kingdom.

Would he reprise the agreeably off-the-wall ventures of his solo project, the SLP, on which he appeared unable to decide whether he wanted to be a rapper or a forger of grand prog concepts? If this feels like a lot of complaints, at least it’s because Pizzorno offers up so many things that it is very easy to find bits that don’t work.

Kasabian’s future seemed very much in doubt without their former frontman to sell the band’s unique brand of psychedelic party anthems. Serge, always the chin-stroking auteur to Meighan’s endorphin-inducing rabble-rouser, had to – as he puts it on this album’s ravey ‘SCRVPTURE’ – “reach for the mic as I walk from the shadow”.Pizzorno has as much interest in texture as he does in instrumentation; in making things sound like something else – you’d swear the single Scriptvre opens with an orchestra of ships’ foghorns.

Forse uno dei migliori dischi dei Kasabian, a mio parere, la voce di Tom Meighan non manca affatto, Sergio Pizzorno si è preso sulla spalle tutta la band e la produzione sonora e dei testi, un gran bel lavoro che rende anche molto bene nei live. Arriving halfway through the record, it’s 49 seconds of tasteful washes of synth, which ebb and flow, building and contracting in a hypnotic movement. Smith (who’s worked with Stormzy and shared knob-twiddling duties with Pizzorno), but there’s darkness there too.Love Kasabian normally, have all there albums and seen them live, they were excellent but this album is a great disappointment I’m afraid. Although Pizzorno’s reedy squeak usually sounds more suited to psych-folk played in regional arts centres, Meighan was always better on stage than in the studio, and is only missed here for his ability to sell a chorus. Of the new album, Kasabian’s seventh, Serge comments: “One thing about this record I feel over the other ones, is it definitely feels like a body of work that belongs together.
