The side characters were excellent with Chandler's cousin (who's more like a sister), her parents, Finn's mom and best friend. The conflict in this book is mostly about figuring out what’s safe and familiar versus what you really want.

We see a friendship be built up as they get to know each other, that their true feelings can’t NOT become involved.We’ll laugh about her takedown of internet trolls in chapter four and roll our eyes at all the people-­pleasing she used to do, documented in detail in chapter sixteen.

Through every awkward moment, every agonizing decision, and all their day to day moments, both felt so real to me and I can see them existing completely off of the page.They really prioritised communication and I appreciated that; they talked about their issues, gave each other space when needed and were each other’s safe space, someone they knew they could be vulnerable without being scared of being judged. I loved going behind-the-scenes of Finn’s show and the convention circuit, as well as learning about the book writing/ghost writing world a la Chandler. It’s not that Chandler doesn’t like her job–it’s still writing–it’s just that it’s not very fulfilling getting zero credit for her hard work. Rachel Lynn Solomon knows exactly how to crank up the heat, and the chemistry between Chandler and Finn is hot hot hot.
