Description

Sore throat medicine: Sore throat medicine is designed to help relieve the pain and discomfort associated with a sore throat. It may contain anesthetics, such as benzocaine or lidocaine, which numb the throat to reduce pain. Some sore throat medicines also contain ingredients like honey or lemon to soothe the throat and provide additional relief. Beechams breathe clear sachets contain two active ingredients, the painkiller paracetamol (600mg) and a decongestant called phenylephrine hydrochloride (10mg). The powder in the sachets is dissolved in hot water to make a hot drink. Side effects: See SPC for full details. Hypersensitivity reactions e.g. rhinitis, angioedema, urticaria, bronchospasm, skin reactions and anaphylaxis. Nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, gastrointestinal ulceration, gastrointestinal haemorrhage and gastritis. Renal dysfunction, increased blood uric acid levels, elevation in aminotransferase levels, prolonged bleeding time, thrombocytopenia, ecchymosis, sodium and fluid retention bronchospasm, tinnitus, temporary hearing loss, nervousness and dizziness.

Dosage: Adults and children aged 16 years and over: One sachet to be taken every four hours, if necessary, up to a maximum of six sachets in 24 hours. Do not take continuously for more than 7 days without medical advice. Do not give to children under 16 years of age except on medical advice. Don't take Beechams breathe clear if you're taking any of the following medicines, because the combination may increase your blood pressure: You could also try inhalations containing substances like menthol or eucalyptus oil, or nasal sprays or drops containing saline to help clear the nasal passages. Warnings and precautions: Patients should be advised not to take other paracetamol-containing or any other cold, flu or decongestant products concurrently. Care is advised in the administration of paracetamol to patients with severe renal or severe hepatic impairment. Medical advice should be sought before taking this product in patients with: glutathione depletion due to metabolic deficiencies or occlusive vascular disease. Use in caution in patients taking digoxin, cardiac glycosides and ergot alkaloids. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine. Contains 3.8g sucrose per dose. Caution in patients with diabetes. Contains source of phenylalanine. May be harmful for people with phenylketonuria. Contains 135mg sodium per dose. Medical advice should be sought if symptoms worsen, persist for more than 7 days or are accompanied by high fever, skin rash or persistent headache. Contains paracetamol. Care is advised in the administration of paracetamol to patients with severe renal or severe hepatic impairment. The concomitant use with other products containing paracetamol may lead to an overdose. Paracetamol overdose may cause liver failure which may require liver transplant or lead to death.

It's fine to take Beechams breathe clear with plain ibuprofen or aspirin (assuming these are appropriate for you). However, don't take it with co-codamol, co-dydramol or Tramacet because these contain paracetamol. If your symptoms persist despite taking this medicine ask your pharmacist for advice. Don't take it continuously for more than seven days without seeing your doctor or pharmacist. Anti Malaria Malaria is a serious tropical disease spread by mosquitoes. Do not take with other sympathomimetics, decongestants or cold and flu medicines should be avoided. Medical advice should be sought before using this product in patients with an enlargement of the prostate gland, glutathione depletion due to metabolic deficiencies, occlusive vascular disease, and cardiovascular disease. Excessive intake of caffeine should be avoided. Patients who are taking warfarin should seek medical advice before taking this product. Contains sunset yellow/ amaranth (E110) which may cause an allergic reaction. Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose. Liver damage is possible in adults who have taken 10g or more of paracetamol. Ingestion of 5g or more of paracetamol may lead to liver damage if the patient has risk factors (see below).

Allergic reactions such as a rash or itching. Stop using this medicine and get medical advice if you think you've had an allergic reaction to it. If you're taking medicines for high blood pressure you shouldn't take Beechams breathe clear, because the decongestant may make your blood pressure medicine less effective. Do not take more than the recommended dose. Warnings

The antidiabetic medicines exenatide, lixisenatide and liraglutide may slow down the absorption of paracetamol into the bloodstream, so it might take longer to work if you're using one of these medicines to treat your diabetes.
