Description

Another con in A Condition Called Love is that there are two side characters each with their own crushes that involve age gaps. The first being only a three-year age gap; but it’s still a college student falling for a high school student… which just feels kinda weird. These two characters individually are amazing and lovable, but I don’t think there needs to be a romance between them. Hananoi has a somewhat mysterious side to him, since it is shown that he only is kind towards Hotaru and nobody else, and it's in some way "suspicious" why he goes to such extents to win her over sometimes. Hotaru really isn’t anything special and the author doesn’t try to make her Mary Sue she’s just a really nice girl who’s trying her best at the peak of her youth. She actually does a good job of trying to explain to Hananoi why being excessively love-bombing and possessive won’t get her to automatically “”love” him right away and he’s actually receptive of that! (Surprisingly) Even better, he and Hananoi have a realistic relationship and interactions. They aren’t besties; they fight as two rivals should (within the confinements of social norms). But they also act like real people who learn to understand the other person, even if they don’t become friends. I was always confused by shoujos that make rivals in love become super close friends. A Couple Cons The manga was first published in print in Dessert in December of 2017 and online in 2020 via the online manga reading platform for the parent company, Kodansha USA. The series has seen widespread success and was nominated for the Kodansha Manga Award in the shoujo category for the first time in 2020, winning the award the following year. A TV anime adaptation was announced in June 2023 to premiere in 2024. The adaptation, produced by East Fish Studio will begin airing in April 2024 and star Kana Hanazawa as Hotaru and Chiaki Kobayashi as Hananoi.

Decon-Recon Switch: Of Dogged Nice Guy. Hananoi is determined to make the object of his affection fall for him and does so by exhibiting extreme selflessness, going out of his way to do whatever it takes to fulfill and conform to his partner's wishes (or what he thinks she wishes), at the cost of his own desires and interests. The manga shows how such a love is actually burdensome to the partner, and Hananoi goes through girlfriends like tissue papers as each one gets fed up with his overbearing form of love. One even shows up later on in the story to tell Hotaru how Hananoi became so controlling and possessive, she had to break up with him. That said, Hotaru is able to understand that Hananoi does mean well, even if he's misguided, and that his desire to see his partner be happy can be a positive thing if done in moderation. In fact, it is Hananoi's attentiveness that ultimately sways her feelings fully towards him. A condition called love is a deconstruction of conventional romantic comedies where we can observe the "love story" of a girl who doesn't know what love is like (Hotaru) and a boy who "loves too much" (Hananoi).Hotaru and Hananoi are in a relationship, but Hotaru's coworker Yao once again has romantic feelings for her. This later ends up a Love Dodecahedron since Hotaru's other coworker develops feelings for Yao, but she is all too aware of his feelings for Hotaru. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 💯☑️ It really is an amazing read, if you like fluffy romance shoujo mangas, then this is one for u! 😉👍 facts about a Japanese gem, manga, would be a big loss for you. There are many reasons why there are Finally, for a (so far) simple lighthearted story about a young couple learning about each other, it has sufficient exciting moments that shoujo romance lovers will be grateful for. What's more, it's not just BAM! kabedon out of nowhere! or just really out of place/forced things, but properly sweet and natural actions that make it all the better.

Mateo, Alex (May 13, 2021). "45th Annual Kodansha Manga Awards' Winners Announced". Anime News Network . Retrieved May 21, 2021. It’s pretty obvious from the start of A Condition Called Love that Hananoi has some attachment issues and an obsessive personality. I mentioned earlier that he gave me yandere vibes and kind of creeped me out at first (haha). There is also more information later revealed that makes his character seem even worse. Like, lots of red flags of being controlling when it comes to dating. Chapter 17 - Our First Second Year • Chapter 18 - His First Tears • Chapter 19 - His First Rival • Chapter 20 - Our First Excursion Morino launched the Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty manga in Monthly Dessert in 2014, and the manga ended in its sixth and final volume, which released in July 2017. Kodansha USA Publishing released the manga in English. Morino's My Fair Neighbor manga serialized in Monthly Dessert from August 2013 until January 2014.There's some actual character development and the FL & ML both have their own insecurities YET THEY ALWAYS MANAGE TO COMMUNICATE!!! Yeah, there are misunderstandings that are thrown here and there, yet it doesn't drag on because they talk to each other and it's just so UGH. It's what all the other shoujo manga should strive to be like.

The real star of the show though is Hotaru, the main female lead. Sweet, caring, and exceptionally considerate, and someone who cares deeply about her family and friends. Someone whose silliness is a different brand of cutesy compared to many other shoujo leads I've seen. She has an aura that almost feels like going into a relaxing hot bath -- seeing her just soothes me. It's also not very often to see a character who loves food so explicitly that isn't played off as a joke, and as a fellow food-lover who knows how much it can bring people together, I think that's really wonderful. And more than that, she's a natural counter for Hananoi's unhealthy tendancies; setting boundaries, asking for what the other wants, so on and so forth. "If love means that only one of us gets to be happy, then screw love!" she says in the first chapter, and I think it's that worldview that is what pushes Hananoi towards a healthier path. Hananoi has a messed up perception of love/self worth and in his own way is trying to be better about opening up and not be overbearing/toxic, but he's essentially This is the first time I am crying while reading manga that is not supposed to make me cry. I am similar with Hananoi-kun, "heavy" and have tendency to be manipulative but it's not because I want to be like that, maybe I just don't know how to love someone normally and too anxious for them to disappear because of my past. So yeah, this manga really touch my heart and I honestly need someone like Hotaru in my life, I hope I will meet someone like her one day. This manga is really, really bugging me. It's written as if it's a typical cute shoujo romance. Nothing special, girl meets boy, they start dating even though Hotaru isn't sure if she likes Hananoi yet. Bridal Carry: During their Christmas Eve date at the ice rink, Hananoi suddenly sweeps Hotaru off her feet in a bridal carry. He explains he did it all to make her feel like a princess as it's also her birthday but she rarely ever gets to celebrate as a special day just for her because of the holiday and family obligations. Kodansha USA Publishing started publishing the manga in English digitally in 2020. The company published the manga's first compiled book volume physically in English on January 24, and will release the fifth volume on November 21. Kodansha USA Publishing describes the manga's story: Morino launched the manga in Kodansha's Monthly Dessert magazine in December 2017. Kodansha will publish the manga's 13th compiled book volume on June 13. The manga has over 3.8 million copies in circulation. The manga won the Best Shōjo Manga award in Kodansha's 45th Manga Awards in 2021.

Also without really giving much away there’s actually a surprising twist about Hananoi that doesn’t reveal itself until mid way Then you realize that the male MC Hananoi is kinda throwing red flags all over with his possessive clingy love-bombing. And instead of glossing over or romanticizing his behavior the author does a good job of getting the female main to break out of his toxic mentality A Condition Called Love is a deconstruction of romantic comedies, asking "What would happen if you made the male lead an actual person?" He's tall and handsome, he's always there to protect his love interest when she's in danger, he dotes upon her, cares for her, never runs out of reasons he loves her, he's willing to do anything for her, and his world revolves around her. What would our well-intentioned male lead actually look like? And Megumi Morino executes this to near perfection. not trying to be complicated. The couple starts dating right at the start, and it follows them as they go through this journey of discovering love together.

I'll start this by saying 90% of the reason behind the rating is the male lead, as it usually tends to be with series of that sort. With that said, the remaining 10% is what made me drop this.
