I could only stand so much bratty angsting from the MC and acting like the world revolved around him before the plot twist happened and by then I didn't care enough to finish. I was really excited to watch this bcs of the mamy positive but in translation i saw mention of rape i normally do not mind this that much until found out mc actually rapes ml and he does not feel guilt over the act but the person who he raped so like if it was someone else it would be ok and that it has an abusive relationship thid kind of thing was the thing that made me giving up on reading legendery master's wife too what should i do? You know there must be a terrible misunderstanding for them to have ended that way, for Chu Wanning to let Shi Mei die instead of helping him, breaking Mo Ran’s heart. I started this novel after I went through all the positive (and oftentimes emotional reviews) but then I was left with disappointment but also some understanding of why some others actually like it.

His shizun was really similar to a cat, while he himself was like a dumb puppy slobbering and wagging his tail. Sexual abuse is extremely fetishized and/or romanticized in this volume, as it is used either for shock value or just because. Even just a simple act of looking away and responding with silence to a question, a single gaze, a small habit.Yet despite Mo Ran’s shameless pursuit of his own goals, he begins to question his previously held beliefs, and wonders if there could be more to his teacher-and his own feelings-than he ever realised. the female lead is brutalized, tortured and r*ped, victim blamed, mindbreaked into accepting their bastard evil love interest except instead its in the r*pist's POV and the author wants us to feel bad for the r*pist, and that "oh, he's a changed man and regrets r*ping his s/o to near death and treating them like the scum under their shoe". Due to lack of love/care during his childhood he warms up to people who show him a shred of genuine emotion. I've seen many people say that they initially disliked the MC at the beginning but grew fond of him later on. But alongside all that anger, disbelief, and sadness, the author's notes and mini theatres give you a piece of mind.

Also known as 2ha, the wildly popular danmei/Boys' Love novel series from China that inspired a multimedia franchise! His low self-esteem, the age gap between them, seeing his loved one being devoted to other person will give you lots of sweet knives. If the author wanted to make us believe that Mo Ran was sorry they wouldn't have shown him getting turned on while reminiscing about him raping his shizun. This why when he finally found out how many lives that he need for the final plan, he chose to back down and gave up. The fact that Mo Ran shows he loves Chu Wanning with food is just *insert satisfied cat face here* And, like, even the CANDY has meaning? It was also because he was still at the beginning when he knew how terrible he would be in the future, that why he finally chose to stop and ended up betraying himself and considers his eyes as payment for his betrayal. His shizun was really too much like a cat while he himself was a dumb pup who’d only slobber and wag his tail.

Excluding the gross fetishization and romanticization, this wouldn't have been a HUGE issue if this WASN'T promoted as a ROMANCE NOVEL. Although it took me a little time to fall in love with this book’s cast, once I did there was no going back.I keep it to myself because I know I will get hate for it, but I genuinely like 2ha more than I like MDZS. I'm all for morally dubious characters or characters who are terrible people, however I found Mo Ran to be almost completely insufferable throughout the volume. Wonderful story, the plot is interesting, the knives are sharp, the range of characters is amazing, main cast has its momentum, it's not flat. Hua Binan has committed countless crimes, at first it was just a small thing, but from that little thing he grew more and more numb that he didn't even care if it cost the entire world.
