Ohio – Natasha witnesses the carefree nature of the Ohio suburbs through the neighbourhood children. Yes, this was derivative -- major Bourne and Mission Impossible vibes, TaskMaster is basically Snake Eyes from GI Joe, everybody has Captain America shields, and so on. But that didn't bother me a bit. Walk and Talk – Alexei and Melina have a playful exchange. The Taskmaster arrives and faces off with Alexei. This is the first MCU movie where the 2 hour plus time wore on me. But that was likely to do the padded time for "family" building. They could've cut a lot of that out, but leaving it in added some depth to the storyline. And the tonal inconsistencies and odd joke placements were more noticeable than usual, especially some that made me cringe. Widows in Training – Yelena and Alexei awaken in captivity. Melina hands the Taskmaster vials while the Widows train.

Good film! With all the ingredients of your usual solid Marvel production. Fun characters, glib dialogue, charming family dynamics and spectacular action set pieces. Florence Pugh as Yelena is just fantastic. When I first saw her in Midsommar, her uncontrollable sobbing in the beginning annoyed me. But she grew on me as the movie went on. She looks almost exactly the same but is transformed here and is frankly perfect as Natasha's willful younger sister. The National Association of Theater Owners weren't impressed with the simultaneous digital launch though, citing it as a reason for the "stunning second-weekend collapse" (via The Hollywood Reporter). The long-awaited solo outing for Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff fell 67% in its second weekend at the US box office, marking the biggest-ever drop for an MCU movie from its opening. That's bad, right? Well, it's steeper than Disney and Marvel would have wanted, but comparisons to previous MCU movies feels harsh. It's not just the US box office that decides whether a movie is a success or a failure these days though. Increasingly, overseas markets have rescued a movie from a below-par domestic performance or bolstered an impressive home performance.

P.S. There's a scene where they are drinking vodka like water. I can confirm having been to Russia a bunch of times that is pretty typical and I have the lost liver cells to prove it. You likely want to add the movie to your DVD collection. Sure, you’ll be able to stream it online in the future as part of a general subscription, but there’s something special about owning these Marvel movies on DVD and Blu-ray. That's nothing to be sniffed at in this new era where everybody is working out what the new barometer for success is, but the question is whether the movie could have performed better without the Disney+ release. Grocery Shopping – Natasha heads into a grocery store to prepare for her journey through Norway. After a long drive, she arrives at her destination: a mysterious trailer in the middle of nowhere. Kiss – Alexei and Melina reunite after the action. Natasha grieves over an untimely demise in the brutal aftermath. There's a bit of Fast and the Furious unbelievability in the big action sequences but that may just because there's no Norse God's, Iron Men or super soldiers flying through steel girders anymore.
