Description

Chivas Regal’s Royal Salute is considered one of the finest Scotch whiskies by those in the know and was created in 1953 to honor the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. An absolute gem of a whisky, the 21 year old Royal Salute Signature Blend is a sophisticated expression. It's aged for a minimum of 21 years in honour of the 21 Gun Salute that is fired at the Tower of London for Royal celebration. The whisky is presented in a classic blue Wade ceramic decanter. Royal Salute was launched on 2nd June 1953 as a tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her Coronation Day. The name of this exceptional Scotch Whisky comes from the 21 Gun Royal Salute, which is fired as a mark of respect for powerful dignitaries. Strathisla Single Malt is one of the malt whiskies used as part of the Chivas Regal blend. Launched in 1953, this Chivas Royal Salute 21 yo whisky served as a tribute to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Named after the traditional 21-gun salute, this blended whisky has been aged for at least 21 years.

Older releases have included a 40-year-old bottled in a red Baccarat bottle to mark the Queen’s 40th anniversary, the 50-year-old Coronation Cask, and the 45-year-old Tribute to Honour.Barley Barley wine Corn Mageu Pozol Tejuino Tesgüino Millet Oshikundu Tongba Rice Agkud Amazake Apo Beopju Brem Choujiu Chuak Dansul Gwaha-ju Hariya Makgeolli Mijiu Mirin Pangasi Rice wine Rượu cần Sake Sato Shaoxing wine Sonti Tapai Tapuy Rye Kvass Sorghum Pendhā Multiple grains Ale Ara Beer Boza Huangjiu Royal Salute is unique in that the youngest ‘entry-level’ expression in its range is 21 years old. Since its launch Royal Salute has always been bottled in coloured ceramic decanters, the first of which was green, and made by Royal Doulton. It initially featured the Royal Coat of Arms, which was later replaced by the Chivas Brothers crest depicting Robert the Bruce. What a beautiful container. The blue porcelain flagon stands out on my whisky shelf. The Chivas Royal Salute 21 yo whisky is produced by Chivas Brothers. Chivas Brothers trace its roots to the opening of a grocery store in Aberdeen in 1801. The grocery store took the name Chivas Brothers from the 17th century House of Schivas, a large house in the town of the Schivas in Aberdeenshire. Save the date for the opening of an innovative new distillery” cried the invite. “Aha!", I thought,…

A fruity, smokey and floral nose greets the drinker, before notes of chocolate, dried fruits, caramel and toasted oak wash over the palate. The Royal Salute’s finish contains subtle notes of white raisin and cherry blossoms floating on a long and luxurious finish. Sustainability and responsibility is more than a priority for us. It’s guiding our processes, shaping our brands and moulding our future.”At her coronation, the crown of Queen Elizabeth II was set in rubies, sapphires and emeralds. These precious stones remain the inspiration for the colours of Royal Salute's handcrafted flagons, therefore bottle colour may vary. A brown decanter was introduced in the 1950s but was discontinued in 1991. Other colours, all containing the same 21-year-old blend, have included blue (first introduced in 1960), and burgundy, which first arrived in 1985. Other releases from the Chivas Regal stable that I have tried include the Chivas Regal 12 yo Blended whisky and the Chivas Regal Extra blended whisky. By looking for the unique bottle identifier, date and time of bottling on the reverse of the flagon.

Showered with royal warrants since 1843, Chivas Brothers has more than returned the favour with Chivas Regal and a bevy of other blends with the word ‘royal’ in the title. Of these, the most prestigious is Royal Salute, launched in 1953 to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. First created as a gift for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her Coronation in 1953, Royal Salute, the master of exceptional aged Scotch whisky, marks the start of a new era of contemporary monarchy with a precious limited-edition expression, the Royal Salute Coronation of King Charles III Edition. The Royal Salute Coronation of King Charles III Edition is housed in a Dartington Crystal decanter, tinted in a deep sapphire blue hue, reminiscent of the precious stones set within the Imperial State Crown. In keeping with Royal Salute’s signature style, the decanter is presented in a stunning wooden box inspired by the iconic Westminster Abbey, with details intricately chiselled into the wood, paying tribute to the historic setting of British Coronation ceremonies since 1066. The jewels and crests of each country forming Great Britain were the inspiration for the artwork inside the gift box, symbolising the unity under the Crown and enduring solidarity between the nations. This prestige whisky is distilled at the legendary Strathisla Distillery, which is now Chivas Brothers primary operating centre, but was originally founded in 1786 and holds the incredible distinction of being the oldest working distillery in the Highlands of Scotland. FINISH: The whisky finish ends in notes of spice and toffee. The Royal Salute has a medium-long finish. Distilleries - Meldrum House Country Hotel and Golf Course - Nestled in the heart of Aberdeenshire's tranquil countryside".
