Steris’s character, at least for me, has surpassed Marasi at this point, and I feel a little sad that she is not getting as much time as others do. The characters are among some of my favorites, and I was shocked by how much of the last part of the story I had forgotten. Harmony offers Wax the chance to continue his life and fulfil his duty; he takes it, taking the Bands from Marasi and healing his wounds. At New Seran, Wax attends a party held by prominent noblewoman Lady Kelesina Shores, after acquiring a strange coin and partially uncovering a conspiracy Shores is involved in.

We resume the Era 2 journey where we had left things off in Shadows of Self, with almost nothing missing between the two. Wax, Wayne, and Marasi have been pivotal in Alloy of Law and Shadows of Self, and they undoubtedly developed so much in The Bands of Mourning, well, maybe not too much for Wayne; he's still mostly the same. Very weird but in a good way whereas Wayne has grown a little more palatable he still doesn't seem real. Wax and Wayne, assisted by the lovely, brilliant Marasi, must unravel the conspiracy before civil strife stops Scadrial’s progress in its tracks.
