We imagine some of you will be owners of older Logitech G-series wheels wondering whether you should upgrade or not. If you’re after PS4 support, the old wheels will do you no good. They don’t work with the console, despite a 20,000-strong petition to get Logitech to add PS4 support (which some claim would be possible).

You get the extra controls on the faceplate, plus a new feel to the brake pedal. There are probably tweaks to the internals, but these are the main differences we noted. Another important factor to deciding which stand to buy is how space efficient and portable it will be. Chances are, you will need to move your stand when you are not using it. Maybe you have a multi-purpose desk, or maybe you race in the living room and need to clear it out after your session. The good news is that sim racing stands tend to be pretty small to begin with. They aren’t full rigs with seats, so their footprint isn’t that large. Features We found it to be 100 per cent plug and play. Hook up the 3-pedal board to the wheel, then the wheel to the PS4 and you’re away. It automatically recognises the wheel, which can then be used instantly with games like DriveClub and Project Cars. No extra set-up is needed. As you would expect, this stand us fully adjustable. Wheel height, pedal angle, shifter position, etc. It’s not as portable as the other options, but you get a lot more strength in return.Whether you love the colour injection or hate it, it’s not as though Logitech gives you any choice. And for something that’s going to be consigned to wherever you game (or, as is quite likely, the cupboard 95 per cent of the time) does it matter? It takes a little bit of time to get used to, but after a bit of practice, you will be able to consistently hit your braking zones. The manual shifter itself transforms the racing wheel into something much closer to a regular road car. But much like its racing wheel brother, it also has some flaws. The main one being how weak it is. There is little to no resistance in the shifting at all. You can literally shift with your little finger. It positioned itself early on as the most consumer-friendly and budget-friendly racing wheel. And the reputation that Logitech had previously built with the G25 and G27 as a good quality, low-cost racing wheel manufacturer remained.

As you grow as a racer, you will progress from the G29 through to belt-driven wheels and even direct drive wheels further down the line. This progression as a driver, and in terms of hardware will be ever rewarding when you make the next jump up. First, the stand is not really noticeably lighter than the old one. I would cut some "speed holes" into the base-plate specifically to lighten it up. Also, I messed up when cutting the mounting holes for the pedal-box so the inside pair of bolts do not line up. The bolt pattern for this pedal-box is asymmetric, and I accidentally cut mine with the inside bolts offset towards the wrong side (they would be perfect if the pedal-box was turned 180 degrees, but of course that would make it difficult to drive). No big deal since the 4 outside bolts are more than enough to hold it. These PS4 exclusive touches really finish the wheel off nicely and give it that racing vibe. These weren’t included on the Xbox version due to restrictions with the Xbox architecture. Meaning Xbox gamers such as myself, miss out. The Logitech has been around for quite a bit of time now, and it has stood the test of time well. For the past five years, the G29 has had a good grip on the “My first racing wheel” consumer. It’s a three-pedal setup: accelerator, brake and clutch. Each has a different tension style, mirroring what you get in a real car. The important improvement in the G29 is the brake. It’s progressive, with more tension at the end of its depression to give you much better control over the force of the brake and a more realistic. It’s a big improvement over the old wheels, and the pedal set included with the Thrustmaster T300 RS.Using this knowledge and our experience with other racing wheels, we give you our expert review of the Logitech G29 / G920. Some Logitech G27 owners went as far as to emulate this brake feel by putting a sliced-in-half tennis ball under the pedal, so it’s good to see Logitech has taken this on-board. But after spending some time with the G29 or G920, you start to become aware of its downside. Those gears produce a lot of spiking and jumping.

The main body is constructed from metal, and the almost completely round handle is wrapped in real perforated leather. The rim is finished with a flash of metal at the top just like real racing wheels. Much like the main wheel itself, the pedals that come in this wheel bundle are well designed and look the part. They feature a plastic base, with three metal pedals. in diameter, with a largely metal frame and finished with leather, it has a high-end-enough build to just-about give you enough ammunition to convince people it’s not a toy. Yes, we know it is one really. The Logitech G29 Driving Force does its best to look and feel like a ‘real’ steering wheel. And those of you who have owned or wanted one of these wheels for years will notice it looks an awful lot like the Logitech G27, its last-gen brother.Since buying the G29, we’ve gone on to own and drive with a complete range of racing wheels. From Thrustmaster equivalents, up to the extreme power of Fanatec’s direct-drive racing wheels. But we have always kept our humble G920, and it still gets it’s time in the spotlight from time to time. That is the crowd that these two racing wheels are meant for. And with that in mind, Logitech did a fantastic job of achieving what they set out to achieve. Let’s delve deeper and review all aspects of this racing wheel bundle. The G29 / G920 has made many gamers fall in love with sim racing, including ourselves. And for that reason, we would wholeheartedly recommend it to new racers! Unlike a few other starter pedal sets, Logitech is generous enough to include a third pedal. This is great to see, as Logitech also sell an add-on shifter.
