Also in the Season 2 finale cliffhanger, Violet is drugged and trapped in her home by Katie, a mentally ill former patient who is convinced that Violet has her baby. Earlier in the episode, Violet thinks that Katie is off her psychiatric medications as Katie, who recently experienced a miscarriage, is almost euphoric about Violet's pregnancy. In the end, Katie blames Violet for her own unsuccessful pregnancy and is determined to hold Violet hostage until she gives her the baby. However, Katie begins to follow instructions for a caesarian section from a textbook, claiming she cannot wait for a normal delivery since she knows she will be arrested. Violet begins to instruct Katie on the C-section to save the baby's life, since she fears she cannot save her own. The season ends with Katie preparing to cut into Violet's belly. Gardner does an amazing job of giving the reader insight into the boredom, curiosity, and hopelessness as Violet goes through each emotion. Her only connection to the outside world is the voice on the other end of the phone, Bud. She’s posted of information on social media, so he knows what she looks like as well as intimate details of her life. Even if she could look him up, Bud has virtually no social media presence. Violet is best friends with her co-worker, Cooper Freedman, often getting him out of humiliating situations with women.

Violet is Nowhere - Book Review - WeekendNotes

Another notable aspect of “Violet Is Nowhere” is the way it maintains a clear and neutral tone throughout, allowing readers to fully immerse in the story without feeling manipulated toward a specific conclusion. One particular strength of this standalone thriller is its ability to explore complex human emotions and relationships. Characters are well-developed, and readers will find themselves easily connecting with their struggles and triumphs. The author does a fantastic job in portraying the essence of resilience, making this book not just an exciting read, but also an inspiring one. Another point of criticism was the near-predictable nature of certain events in the book, which resulted in a less climactic ending than some had hoped for. Additionally, readers noted that certain sections of the book seemed to drag on, with excessive filler content that could have been trimmed. I absolutely loved Amen, Maxine and am so excited to feature the second installment of the Jolvix Episodes by Faith Gardner – Violet is Nowhere. With new characters and an entirely different side of Jolvix, this novel can be read as a standalone. There is a slight nod to Maxine for those of us who have read it and finding that little Easter Egg brought a smile to my face. Thank you to my partners at BookSirens, Mirror House Press, and Faith Gardner for providing me with an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
