A "W" after the model number designates the watch as Water Resistant. Some models (like the F-87) exist with and without a W, and differ in the look of the crystal. What I love about the F-84W is that it has more of an old school vibe to it. Where the 91 has more of a nineties vibe, the 84 has a more understated eighties vibe, in my opinion. And being the old curmudgeon that I am, I prefer it. 🙃 P. D Little by little I will be adding more information and more curiosities of this module 593 Japanese of the F-91 W. Greetings.

Also, this is a very reserved design. The F-91W and W59 are slightly "loud" in appearance. Not the F-84W. It's very simple and pleasant to view. Even if you don’t use the alarm or stopwatch, you’ll still make use of the main display that gives you everything you need. You have the time, day, and date all right there. So if you're a person with slightly bigger wrists, where the F-91W might look a little small, this one's for you. Another bonus of having a JDM watch strapped to your wrist is that you’re more likely to attract the right kind of attention. Those who know, know. Those who don’t, won’t. It’s as simple as that. Pop a Rolex on your wrist and you’re likely to attract ALL kinds of attention. Yeah, it’s true. The ’84’ made its debut in 1986 while the ’91’ was introduced in well… 1991. Although with that said, there are conflicting reports with PacParts stating that the Casio F-91W was born in 1989 instead. Whatever that year may be, the ’84’ is the OG between these two.

The time or date is adjusted by pressing the lower left button three times to bring the watch to time adjustment mode. The top left button is used to cycle through seconds, hours, minutes, month, date, day and normal mode. The right button is used to adjust the flashing value displayed. Unlike any other value, the seconds can only be zeroed. Should this happen before 30 seconds, the watch will zero in at the beginning of the current minute. After 30 seconds it will start the next minute as displayed. When the adjustments are finished, the bottom left button can be pressed once to return the watch to normal mode. For starters, I really like how functional this watch is. Every feature is practical, and there’s nothing unnecessary thrown in the mix. The lower left button, labelled "Mode", cycles the modes of the watch: time display, alarm, stopwatch, and time/date adjustment. What are the main differences between the CASIO F84-W and the F91-W? Is the F84-W a Japanese Domestic Market only?

The Casio F-84W

The F-84W is especially great for smaller wrists. Unlike many other digital watches, it doesn’t look bulky at all. F84w will be Japan domestic sales model. F91w is overseas sales model. Function will be the same. LED light, stopwatch, alarm, is a time signal.

James Ball (April 25, 2011). "Guantánamo Bay files: Casio wristwatch 'the sign of al-Qaida' ". The Guardian. London. Compared to the F-91W, the F-84w is smaller, thinner, and lighter. The display is roughly the same size, but the body of the watch itself is smaller than the F-91W. Casio F84W on my 6.3″ wristMore than a dozen detainees were cited for owning cheap digital watches, particularly "the infamous Casio watch of the type used by Al Qaeda members for bomb detonators." So, it’s pretty common, right? The Casio F-91W. After all, we’re talking about a watch that has been in continuous production since 1991 and, according to Casio’s estimation, boasts an annual production count of 3 million units. However, we’re not here to talk about the ’91’ today. What you see here is its lesser-known twin, the Casio F-84W. Need I say more? There’s always that added ‘Wow!’ factor when you put on something that you know could only be found in Japan. Being a bit of a car guy myself, the appeal is the same when you spot a car meant for Japan and Japan alone being driven around in Malaysia – we’re talking about cars like the Toyota Mark X or Crown and not those reconditioned lux-minivans.

These are all great alternatives to the venerable Casio F-91W, but if you love the form factor of the original watch, yet want something a bit different, there's also the Casio F-91W. The numbers only tell half the story, though. Where the ’84’ really shrinks on the wrist compared to the ’91’ is the design and taper of the resin strap. While both have lugs widths of 18mm, the strap on the ’84’ tapers more dramatically and narrows to 13.6mm at the end. On the ’91’, the calipers return a reading of 15.8mm. Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) model. Uses the same 593 module, but the case's design is more similar to the older F-28W and F-87W. It has lugs instead of an embedded strap. As mentioned, both have lug widths of 18mm but the ’84’ has a more traditional lug design. With the ’91’, the lugs are pretty much non-existent and should you decide the swap out the straps, it may run the risk of looking a little oddly flush against the case. The right button, labeled "Alarm On-Off/24hr", is the function button: when used, it starts and stops the stopwatch, changes the settings currently being adjusted, or switches between the 12- and 24-hour modes, depending on what mode the watch is currently in. Pressing all three buttons at the same time will fill all the cells on the LCD until any button is pressed again. [10]
