You can pretty much guess the outline of the rest; Ascension island, the South Atlantic, San Carlos, Bomb Alley, the famous yomp, the appalling conditions, the battle for Two Sisters Mountain, the surrender, Port Stanley and home. A few hours after first light the first air raid hit us. Days of total chaos followed as wave after wave of Argentinian jets smashed us. I saw so many aircraft being shot down but they just kept coming.” We also reunited the heroes with commando photographer Pete Holdgate who took the iconic picture on June 14, 1982, the day Argentina surrendered. Due to various events during this month, it has meant a walk that we should have been doing has not been tested out to determine if the route is still viable (HS2?). An alternative, albeit a previous one, is available – ‘The Kenilworth Loop’. Both Yomper and Bergan are now etched into history books and are recognised words in the Oxford dictonary because of this mission.

An illuminating picture of the Royal Marines in action. Gritty and moving and at moments wryly amusing. Gives a penetrating insight into wider aspects of the war as well as armed conflict in general. Pennant British Army slang for the same marching conditions is "tab". (One suggestion is it's from the acronym: Tactical Advance to Battle). [12])The iconic image of the "Yomper" shows Royal Marines heading to Stanley at the end of the Falklands War in June 1982. Gardiner is enough of an officer to make clear that every word of The Yompers is dedicated to honouring his comrades and their families. But he is also enough of a writer to create a vivid, unflinching portrait that does them true justice. Charles Laurence, correspondent for The Daily Telegraph in 1982, attached to 45 Commando, East Falkland The flag for our 2022 photo is a bit bigger than the one in 1982 because no one knows where the original went. The yompers hope a Sun reader may solve the mystery.

Photographer Pete says: “We haven’t seen each other since the Falklands War. A massive thank you to The Sun for getting us all together from the four corners of the country.” Everything we produce is built around the needs of our customers. Whether you’re looking at a Yomper from our standard range, a custom vehicle conversion or a bespoke industrial machine, we are able to manufacture products exactly to your specifications.

Are Yomper 4x4s road legal?

Higher lift and bigger flotation tyres can be fitted if the customer desires, but Mr Walker advises against going too extreme as it ruins the road handling. Marine Ray Houghton: THE veteran of Northern Ireland, Belize and Cyprus left the Marines in 1990. He and wife Serena have two children – nurse Nikki, 33, and policeman Karl, 31. The goal is that the end product feels as much like a factory-fresh Jimny as possible – in Yomper’s words, ‘the kind of vehicle Suzuki would have built themselves’. And we have to agree. The quality of the conversion here is top-notch, with the join between Suzuki’s work and Yomper’s barely perceptible. Were it not for the branding, you could easily believe this was a Suzuki factory product. In Raynor Winn's "The Salt Path" (2018) "yompers" are encountered during the course of walking "the 630 miles of the sea-swept South West Coast Path, from Somerset to Dorset" in England. [8]
