I think the nibs on the Rotring come complete with the section a bit similar to the TWSBI idea, I haven't pulled that apart, ever, so I cannot tell you if it is possible. At 18cm in length, it’s not as short as many fountain pens (shown here with a Lamy Safari), tapering off to a narrow rounded end which sits quite comfortably in the hand. Having gone from the process of going to school, using any pen one can lay their hands on, pens in blister packs, cheap ballpoint pens and the one parker 25 that was saved slavishly for, as an adult, this came as a nice surprise. It doesn't seem bothered what diet of ink it is fed, it just lays down ink reliably, never remember it either skipping or flooding.

This is how the pen holder looks like on its own (the nib may be removed by unscrewing it from the top of the pen holder). I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. The one thing I wonder about is the clip - why on earth does the thing even have a clip, I can't imagine where it can be useful with this size. But having said this, it is still a useful addition to my art box, good for uninterrupted sketching and for larger pen and wash paintings (the pen needs to go on after the watercolour though unless you want the ink to run). I would like to ask you wich one you would suggest to me, considering that I never worked with this kind of pen.I was surprised at how easily the ink flowed and the amount I could vary the line width with only a slight turn of the barrel. Line width variance was pleasingly simple – a slight turn of the nib produced a noticeable change in stroke size and I’m looking forward to putting the Art Pen through its paces on a larger test piece. But since the ink is fast drying and waterproof, there is a chance that it will eventually clog the channel of the pen.

We bring that to life here at Conscious Craft by offering you the best natural toys and craft materials we can find.I’ve noticed that when a fountain pen nib has a big round “ball” shape at the tip, the pen will be very smooth, but you won't have crisp line feeling when you drawing. It’s not super flexible but you will see some line variation when you draw normally with a little pressure. I’d like to give it a try on a full-size A4 piece to see how taxing it might be over an extended period. The silicone stuff, by the way, cost 6 €, but it served for more than one pen: the next one was a Sheaffer Prelude, because it has a much too thin grip section.

This pen has only a very slight ball so the line feels and looks pretty crisp yet it is also smooth.I had no problems with hatching (other than the already mentioned hook marks if I wasn’t careful) and the smooth flow of the ink made shading a joy. The Lyra Art pen is available in 36 loose colours includingfluorescent and metallic gold and silver permanent, opaque colours which can beused on dark surfaces . The Lyra Art Pen is a superb, artist quality tool for allcolouring techniques, artistic drawing and sketches. The only downside I have found so far, is that the nib isn't as fine as you may expect - tested against Rotring fineliners, the line width is somewhere in the range of .
