Fracture Me: Adam's perspective from the first war. I'm being bias to Warner at this point, so I thought this was irrelevant to the progress of the series. Unfortunately you cannot sell a multi book series for the premise of a love interest while forgetting everything else in the series needs attention to detail as well. Well, I guess you can, but it’s going to receive a scathing review from me.

Mafi combines a psychological opener with an action-adventure denouement in her YA debut. This is a gripping read from an author who's not afraid to take risks." -- Publishers Weekly Love love love this book series. And although I know there are a lot of negative aspects about it and that it isn't perfect, I still think it was pretty good.To any girl who meets a boy who was "broken" by the way someone in his life treated him, who gets treated horribly by this boy -- run. His brokenness does not make it okay for him to hurt you. His brokenness does not mean that he deserves your forgiveness. There are plenty of people who suffer abuse and do not lash out and abuse the people they "love."

Tahereh Mafi is a great author. Seriously, her writing style is amazing and her characters three-dimensional, believable people. And the second character I liked: Kenji. Such a lovely, funny guy who doesn't take anyone's shit. Least of all Juliette's. He was the one who always called her out and helped her grow. I'm very glad they became best friends, they're good for each other. world building: the world's aesthetic was really satisfying and beautiful, but the world building overall wasn't as interesting as I wanted it to be. There’s some comedic relief thanks to the character Kenji. His character is pretty funny and almost every interaction he and Warner have made me smile. (It’s not because they get along though teehee).

I know I stopped during the third book, but I wish Juliette’s character development had been better. I wish her change had been more obvious. I wish her arc had been about how touch isn’t the only important thing in life. She was just starting to grow from her old mindset in the third book (due to Warner no doubt) Mafi could have used the people at Omega Point and her problems with Adam to further this—to say: I am powerful and capable and I’ve spent this long fighting for myself, I don’t need to spend entire books stressing about the first guy who liked me. I know that’s kind of Warner’s message to her, but we’re two books in and I’m already bored. The fact that he can touch her and cares about her should have come in later, after she'd delved into this belief for herself. Warner told her everything she needed to be and she did it. She never thought for herself (no, getting angry and yelling when you disagree with something is not thinking for herself). Unravel Me is dangerous, sexy, romantic, and intense. I dare you to stop reading." -- Kami Garcia, #1 New York Times bestselling co-author of the Beautiful Creatures series

The writing was creative and easy to get through. I find a lot of books nowadays are hard to digest, I trip over the jagged rises and falls of the sentences, but shatter me wasn’t like that one bit. It was creative without being over the top or superfluous. I also really enjoyed the POV. Basically it was really easy to get inside Juliette’s head and reside their, taking in what she took in how she perceived it. There is so much I could say but won’t because I want people to actually read this review. Castle was the worst rebel leader ever written, Adam didn’t love Juliette, he just wanted sex. Kenji was fine but his mouth was so over the top with expletives and seedy dialogue that he was a drag to get through most of the time, James was bland. I actually liked Winston and Brendan, but their roles were neglected because there was too much focus on the damn love triangle. I actually hoped they had all died in the bombing in book three like we were “led” to be believe (like I said, predictably predictable), but no, literally every main characters I just mentioned, everyone we’ve met at Omega Point in the past three books, survived. The people who died in the battle were nobodies that nobody cared about because we didn’t know them. Where’s the suspense? Where’s the cathartic grief? You played up the battle and their death so much but then… nothing to show for it? Forgiveness is important in life, for sure, but I don't think it plays a role here. There are some things that are unforgivable. And honestly? If Warner genuinely wanted to develop himself and become a better person, it should have been with someone else. To have Juliette degrade herself and regress entirely in her character development to the point that she falls for her abuser was disturbing on a number of insane levels. Ero così fiera di Juliette. L’ho vista crescere, cambiare e maturare.

My favorite book in the series was Defy Me where the author discloses some mind-boggling truths that change the entire perspective of Aaron and Juliette's life. I am baffled by the fact that people find their relationship romantic. I am deeply saddened by the fact that "broken" characters somehow are given the okay to horrifically damage their partners in the name of love. As if the fact that they love this person makes it okay that they hurt them in these ways.
