Getting this equipment functioning should be easy since Zyxel has created a phone application to register the device to its management solution. On top of it, there's a fifth SSID (2.4GHz) used for the setup process. You can turn it off once you've gotten things up and running. Netgear WAX214: Detail photos The Netgear WAX214 AX1800 Wi-Fi 6 Access Point's retail box. With an AC input voltage of 12V and an input current of 1.5A, the device requires a power supply of 18W to operate efficiently. These specifications help ensure reliable and stable performance.

This is where you add and configure your SSIDs as well (max of 4). You can name them, enabled/disable 2.4/5GHz connections, edit their respective settings, and enable Guest networks. On a WiFi-enabled computer or mobile device, find and connect to the access point’s management SSID. In our tests, the best performance we saw was around the 800Mbps for a single client, but with more clients connecting, that number will go down per client, even if the proportion of the total bandwidth used goes up. It’s easy to assume that the performance of this access point is determined by the bandwidth provided by the dual-band, 2.4 and 5GHz, capability. But wireless networking is never that straightforward, and there are many factors that impact what the user experience of the WAX214 might be. The Netgear WAX214 has a couple of surprises. For one, it's quite compact, significantly smaller than the EnGenious ECW230. And secondly, it doesn't come with a power supply. It's important to note, though, that the SSIDs are virtual -- using more than one doesn't increase the bandwidth of the AP, and per Netgear, each WAX214 can handle up to 40 active devices simultaneously. That's more than enough for most homes. Netgear WAX214: Modest but reliable performance These aren’t issues that are specific to the NWA90AX, but those investing in WiFi 6 technology should be aware that many of the performance numbers quoted by the makers are either theoretical or not practically achievable. The management SSID is the “CONFIG-ONLY” SSID. The default WiFi passphrase for the management SSID is printed on the access point label. The only part of the Nebula interface that needs some work is that it has a map that shows where the equipment resides. We’re unsure how it calculates this location, but ours was utterly wrong, placing the NWA90AX at least 80 miles away from where it resided. Flexible options for power source, either by a DC power adapter (sold separately) or by a PoE Ethernet switch (sold separately).

What’s good is that once you’ve created a MyZyxel account, you can capture the hardware to that account using the QR code on the underside of the access point from within the app.Considering the relatively low cost of this device, the Enterprise friendly controls are impressive, and there is no subscription cost for the standard Nebula functionality of Cloud management. In addition to the management SSID, the access point supports four WiFi networks. By default, only the main WiFi network is enabled. Moving away from the access point but inside the same room dropped those numbers closer to 650Mbps. What I can comment on are the overall wireless speeds I enjoyed on two phones, one with a Wi-Fi 5 radio (an ancient Huawei Mate 10 Pro) and one with a Wi-Fi 6 antenna (a more modern The access point comes with a mall setup booklet and a self-explanatory introduction printed on its underside. A typical PoE AP setup

Looking at these numbers, we’d only allocate a WAX214 to a maximum of 32 people, even if it can handle more in theory. The WAX214v2 delivers high-speed WiFi 6 that is affordable and easy to install, without added infrastructure and deployment costs. Realme X50 Pro). While I did register a top link speed of 1200Mbps on the X50 Pro when stood one metre away, below are the average speeds I recorded when taking several speed tests, in a two-up two-down terraced house in South London.

NETGEAR Makes WiFi Safer

As a business AP, though, this no-power-adapter approach is quite normal. You can think of this as a way to cut costs since many businesses (and homes) already switch with multiple PoE ports. For home users, the local web interface might be a better choice, although the Nebula Cloud control works very nicely, albeit with a short time delay between cloud-initiated changes. The NETGEAR WAX214v2 WiFi 6 PoE+ Access Point delivers 802.11ax high performance wireless connectivity for Small Office and Home Office (SOHO) deployments and supports dual band concurrent WiFi 6 operations at 2.4GHz and 5GHz with a combined throughput of 1.8Gbps (600Mbps at 2.4GHz and 1200Mbps at 5GHz). The WAX214 WiFi 6 Access Point provides standalone configuration with easy setup for a reliable, WiFi 6 802.11ax high performance, and cost effective wireless solution. The WAX214v2 can be powered by Power-over-Ethernet or a DC power adapter (sold separately). Key Features Designed to be easily mounted on walls and ceilings so it can be discreetly located in customer facing areas. The access point comes with a total of four virtual SSIDs (Wi-Fi network names). You can use each as a Dual-band or turn off one of the two bands. You can also make each as a Guest network or customize it with lots of options.

In theory, if it was connected to a combination of two machines, one on the LAN and one by WiFi it might be possible, but the significant variables in that scenario make the results less useful. According to Windows 10, the adapter was connecting at 1.2Gbps when alongside the access point. Although being realistic, as the LAN port is only 1Gbps, it wouldn’t be possible to use all that speed unless the laptop was connecting to another also linked at this level. With the total available bandwidth of WIFi being 1775 Mbps, that’s not achievable. We were very impressed with the granularity of the possible configurations, as the NWA90AX sports up to 8 SIDs, assisted roaming, Bridge mode, Layer 2 isolation, Cloud authentication and Enterprise WPA2/WPA3 logins. The Netgear WAX214's coverage proved impressive, exceeding what Netgear claims, 1500 ft 2 (139 m 2). Using an Ethernet cable, connect an Ethernet port on your computer to a LAN port on a switch or hub that is connected to your LAN.
