I promise by this Mark upon my forehead, that I will strive throughout my life to build a new world, a better world, a world worthy of both our species. Not our species as they are , but as they could be . One of my favourite things about these books is the colourfully inventive language that Cowell comes up with - particularly from Ziggerastica. That made me laugh a lot and makes me think I need to up my own insult game. The In-universe How to Speak Dragonese appears to be a leather-bound notebook created by Hiccup. He gathered all his information on Dragonese - the language of the dragons - into this notebook, and he carries it around with him everywhere. He is quite proud of it. Fishlegs and Hiccup are imprisoned along with the young female Bog-Burglar heir named Camicazi. Toothless is eventually allowed to stay with Hiccup. After several failed attempts at escape, Hiccup calls for Ziggerastica and comes up with a plan of escape on Saturn's Day Saturday.

As the first part of the Dragon Initiation Program, Snotlout captures a Monstrous Nightmare from the Dragon Nursery, despite a longstanding Viking tradition stating that only the son of the chief can possess a Monstrous Nightmare. However small we are, we should always fight for what we believe to be right. And I don’t mean fight with the power of our fists or the power of our swords. That has always been the problem with us Vikings. I mean the power of our brains and our thoughts and our dreams. In How to Steal a Dragon's Sword, the Bog-Burglars went to Flashburn's School of Swordfighting with the rest of the tribes of the Archipelago so that their young members could train under Flashburn.

if we open this door something REALLY UNPLEASANT is going to happen, sure as fish eggs are fish eggs. LOVE the emerging theme of the roman empire as an encroaching oppressive force. i do want to note that by this point in history (there were dates stamped in the how to train your dragon library book in the first one, the latest of which was 866), the roman empire had not had much influence in the west for over 300 years.* which is not a criticism! i like this series's approach to history, complete with horned helmets for vikings: it allows for way more flexibility, fun, & humor. it's just funny to keep in mind. The Plot is a bit predictable by now. Fishlegs and Hiccup gets into trouble and by some crazy plan gets out of it again.

Immunity: After the events of How to Cheat a Dragon's Curse, Hiccup is immune to the poison of the Venomous Vorpent, otherwise the most deadly poison known to man. I wonder if I would be more upset by this kind of thing if the author wasn’t female? That’s something I’ll have to think about. Recommendation Arrow-from-the-land-that-does-not-exist • Axe of Doom • Endeavour • Flashcut • Heartslicers • Invincible • Mr. Pointy • Number Six Sword • Stretchapoint • Swiftpoint Scaremaker • Stormblade • Roman Shield • Grimbeard's ShieldLater during another lesson, Hiccup and Fishlegs are kidnapped by poorly dressed Romans trying to look like Bog-Burglars to start a blood feud. The kidnappers take the boys to Fort Sinister, a base of operations for the Roman Empire in the Archipelago. Once there, Hiccup realizes that the Thin Prefect is in fact Alvin the Treacherous. Alvin would love to dispatch Hiccup right then and there, but the Fat Consul thinks it would be great entertainment to see the Barbarian children fight in the gladiatorial arena on Saturn's Day Saturday a few weeks hence. Cami’s mom is called “Big-Boobied Bertha.” This is what really bothered my daughter (I thought she’d bristle at “girly” as an insult, but she hardly seemed to notice). Bertha has lethal bosoms, which she once used to stun a stag with their powerful blows. Smaller animals have been known to smother in there, too. This isn’t a major plot point—there are pictures (of course) but we only hear about this as part of her reputation. She also has a beard. How to Train Your Dragon • How to Be a Pirate • How to Speak Dragonese • How to Cheat a Dragon's Curse • How to Twist a Dragon's Tale • A Hero's Guide to Deadly Dragons • How to Ride a Dragon's Storm • How to Break a Dragon's Heart • How to Steal a Dragon's Sword • How to Seize a Dragon's Jewel • How to Betray a Dragon's Hero • How to Fight a Dragon's Fury Snotlout is good at all the lessons in the Dragon Initiation Program and the Pirate Training Program. He excels at being a brutish belligerent Viking and great at insulting others, which is ideal in his world. As shown in How to Twist a Dragon's Tale, the Bog-Burglars almost had to evacuate the Archipelago with the rest of the tribes.
