although it may seem paradoxical, adidas classic sneaker ‘stan smith’ is the protagonist of this footwearseries. british fashion designer craig green pushed the boundaries in a collaboration with adidasfor his autumn/winter ’22 collection. the shoes come in all sorts of bizarre looks, accompanied by breathing tubes, inflatables, screws, or even DIY mold aesthetics. not to mention, the result takes on a rather futuristic approach, which will definitely catch your attention. In 1893 Fillmore Moore created the Pneumatic Insole, an inflatable sole that could be adjusted. In addition to being the first work cited by Reebok for the Pump it is also the first work cited for Nike’s ‘Air’. The worlds first Inflatable basketball shoe was and still is one of the finest basketball shoes ever made. Not to be outdone Nike would release their own inflatable basketball shoe the same year in the NIKE AIR PRESSURE (which inflated at the heel in contrast to Reebok’s cleverly designed basketball pump on the tongue).

In this series, inflatable-inspired shoes take over the limelight with their soles that resemble floatation devices. Some of the high tops are doused in bubblegum and saturated colors while the others have jelly, ombre soles. One of the shoes even has just a transparent design for those who want to show their new pedicure designs.

Since the shoes are so big, they'll be perfect for kicking around giant inflatable soccer balls! You just have to make sure you have giant goals as well for the ball to go into!

In 1983 a company by the name of the Aero Shoe corporation advertised a running shoe with adjustable air in the midsole. The company would only last 5 years and the pump looked somewhat like a turkey baster but there was no denying that the company was one of if not thee earliest modern interpreter’s of the original Pneumatic Insole. The shoes come with a traditional bike pump that couples to the metal Schrader valve. If you can fill your bike tires up with air, you can inflate the Small Foot snowshoe. It took about 90 seconds to inflate each snowshoe. When it comes to cutting-edge athletic footwear, Reebok and its competitors - Nike being the most prominent among them - have been at the forefront of industry-shaking innovations that literally change the way people wear (and buy) sneakers. But few innovations have caused a stir quite like the Reebok Pump. On its way to becoming a veritable game-changer, the Pump - introduced at the tail-end of the 1980s - featured technologies that many brands, including arch-rival Nike, had been tiptoeing around for years. Nike would only go on to release two additional inflatable basketball shoes in the NIKE AIR COMMAND FORCE –that used a pump in the collar-

The included bike pump is off-the-shelf ‘meh.’ It works (faster than we thought!), but we’d love to see a dual-action pump that inflates during both the push and pull cycle. Another series UV-Zhu introduced is the AIR anthology where the designer discloses that he made the shoes by inflating them. He also shares that there is no functional or practical value involved in these designs and that they act as an exploration of forms and abstracts meant to be artistic and ornamental. The seams and underside are protected by a heavy-weight Cordura, buffering the shell from abrasion. Fresh of securing a patent for some of the Tech related to the Pump technology Reebok went after one of the largest footwear companies of the day L.A. Gear who was using similar technology in shoes like their Regulator line. Eventually L.A. Gear settled for 1 Million dollars an a licensing agreement allowing for them to use the pump technology in shoes that “borrowed” design characteristics from just about every major brand of the day.Inflatable floaters are not exclusive to swimming and diving anymore as designer UV-Zhu toys with them for his conceptual shoes Reebok however would go on to follow up 1989’s basketball pump with a historic lineup of inflatable shoes across all sport categories over the years to come as well as a memorable ad campaign that put Reebok head to head with Nike.

When designboom highlighted concept designer UV-Zhu’s inflatable shoes, they seem to mark the signature of his conceptual shoes. At times that he inflates the shoe floaters, he fills them up with candies for those who have sweet tooth, and they anchor this playful and zesty energy as these shoes refashion the current fashion climate by turning accessories into works of art that serve their purpose to just please the eyes. As the designer shares, ‘I do not think shoes have to be practical. They can also stand alone as pieces of art.’ With the way technology and research advance these days, materializing these inflatable concept shoes might be a possibility. craig green (see more here) has recently unveiled a foretaste of his footwear autumn/winter 2022 campaign, grabbing the public’s eye. bolted-in or inflatable accents combined with vivid colors — resembling flotation devices — mark the latest manifestation in collaboration with adidas. however, one can confirm this collaboration, only by noticing the characteristic dots of adidas that pierced the shoe in three rows from each side, as well as through the brand’s logo stamped on the front of the inflated shoe.

The future of fashion design and technology seems to be looking more unwearable every day, and the entrance of UV-Zhu’s inflatable shoe designs testifies to that. Before, designboom underlined his collection inspired by mutated creatures. Recently, he deconstructed and published his NIKE concept shoes and series where he layered his creations with daily objects, coupled with his inflatable structures in the art of shoemaking. His ankle straps are made from white garters and silicone and paper-based tapes. He injects springs into the outsoles to catapult the user as they walk without exerting any effort to lift their feet. to Dee Brown pumping up his Omni Zone II on tv during the 1991 slam dunk contest (for which he won)
