Description

Children's books about miserly, nasty, no good, rotten old men go one of two ways. Either the old man is redeemed at the end and Tiny Tim lives, etc. etc. or you get to the end of the book and the miserly, nasty, no good, rotten old man hasn't changed a jot. He's just been thwarted. A kind of Count Olaf ending, if you will. The nice thing about Andy Stanton's Mr. Gum books is that they're written with a two-dimensional villain in place with whom you never, at any point, sympathize. Stanton is a fan of goofiness and is willing to pile a whole bunch of weirdness on top of itself in the hopes that there will be enough funny material to keep the kids ah-reading. For the most part, You're a Bad Man, Mr. Gum! works and even when it doesn't it just seems to be so pleased with itself that you can't help but feel some affection for it. This isn't the strongest silly book for kids I've ever read, but it has its heart in the right place. What’s for Dinner, Mr Gum? is the sixth in the internationally bestselling series by Andy Stanton, which has won everything from the Blue Peter Book Award (twice) to the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Red House Children’s Book Award. The books have been translated into over 25 languages worldwide, and have sold over 4 million copies. Shabba me whiskers! It’s the fourth fantastic Mr Gum story, read by the author and with music and sound effects. A fantastic book for boys and girls aged 7-10 years old

The fifth fabulously funny Mr Gum story by Andy Stanton, read by the author and with music and sound effects. A fantastic book for boys and girls aged 7-10 years old Mr Gum and the Biscuit Billionaire is the second in the internationally bestselling series by Andy Stanton, which has won everything from the Blue Peter Book Award (twice) to the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Red House Children’s Book Award. The books have been translated into over 25 languages worldwide, and have sold over 4 million copies. a b c d Pauli, Michelle. "Andy Stanton's 'cult humour for kids' ". The Guardian . Good evening, brave listener. But are you brave enough to join Polly and Friday as they climb Goblin Mountain to battle the forces of evil? Andy Joel Stanton (born 14 November 1973) is an English children's writer. He is best known for writing the Mr Gum series (illustrated by David Tazzyman), through which he made a popular contribution to children's literature. [2] Stanton's writing is influenced by Roald Dahl and Enid Blyton. [1] Life [ edit ]

Yes, folks, Polly and Friday are facing their biggest challenge yet. So strap yourselves in, cry ‘HI-HO-WEIRDY!’ and get ready for an adventure so crazy your feet will melt with happiness! And I’m not just saying that, I’ve actually seen it happen. HOORAY!You’re a Bad Man, Mr Gum! is the first in the internationally bestselling series by Andy Stanton, which has won everything from the Blue Peter Book Award (twice) to the Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Red House Children’s Book Award. The books have been translated into over 25 languages worldwide, and have sold over 4 million copies. The third barking bonkers Mr Gum story, read by author Andy Stanton with music and sound effects. A fantastic book for boys and girls aged 7-10 years old Not an excellent time, mind you, but a good time. Celyn laughed like a drain, we both smirked. Mr Gum's nastiness was foiled. The big whopper of a dog did not die of poison. All was well. a b Chilton, Martin (26 September 2011). "Andy Stanton and why the truth is a lemon meringue". www.telegraph.co.uk . Good evening. Mr Gum is a complete horror who hates children, animals, fun and corn on the cob. This book’s all about him. And an angry fairy who lives in his bathtub. And Jake the dog, and a little girl called Polly and an evil, stinky butcher all covered in guts. And there’s heroes and sweets and adventures and EVERYTHING. Good evening. OK, this book’s a bit hard to describe. There’s this gingerbread man with electric muscles, see? And he’s rich as a mushroom, right? And Mr Gum and Billy William are planning to get the cash, yeah? And it’s up to Polly to save the day.Bennion, Chris. "Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear review — inventive, mischievous and thrilling". ISSN 0140-0460 . Retrieved 11 October 2022. It's silly, surreal, often abstract, did I mention silly? And it works enough of the time to pull you through the book and deliver the promised good time. It’s barking bonkers! The sixth sensational Mr Gum story, read by the author and with music and sound effects. A fantastic book for boys and girls aged 7-10 years old Book Genre: British Literature, Chapter Books, Childrens, European Literature, Fantasy, Fiction, Humor, Juvenile, Middle Grade, Novels

Like the tale of Polly and that old tumbledown windmill by the riverside. But just what is the windmill’s terrible secret? Why is Mr Gum lurk-lurk-lurkin’ about? And how much does Old Granny know? Readers will feel quite involved in the fast-paced, crazy plot because the author really includes them. He comments, ‘Actually, I think we’d better have a new chapter,’ and ‘you will have to wait till chapter seven to find out. That is what is known as suspense.’ a b c Ingström, Pia (17 September 2015). "Sluka, kladda, läs!". Hufvudstadsbladet (in Swedish). p.24.

Mr Gum und der sprechende Kirschbaum - Theater Magdeburg". www.theater-magdeburg.de . Retrieved 27 November 2023. Good evening and welcome to a tale of forests! Of dreadful villains! Of caterpillars called Graham! And of a great big BEEFER of a cherry tree! Mr Gum is a wildly random tale of a positively Dahlian nasty-old-man. The humour has a Python-esque feel to it and delights in running along abstract corridors of word association. Millä tahansa numerolla aloititkin, ajattelet nyt ihmeellistä puutarhaa. Ja juuri niin ihmeellinen oli herra Gummin puutarha.
