I don’t know how to describe the plot of this book other than to say that it felt like so many things happened, but at the same time nothing happens at all. I like how he is so kind to Kyra (I lowkey ship him with her more than the alternative) And he is genuinely a good person and a feminist, bonus! While this book has some similar writing styles to their other series, how they approached the story was quite different. My problem lies more in the fact that even tho Kyra tells Drake how his face is hideous all the time, her thoughts about him don’t match that at all. I loved how Drake treated her as a sentient being from their first meeting and was so gentle with her, even though he broke his promise in the end.

Drake is still vain as ever, Cassius is still a stickler for rules (albeit a tiny bit less than in the beginning I guess), and still no one is listening to the princess. I was WILLING myself to like this book the entire way through but in the end I gotta be real it was just meh. This book does end on a pretty amazing cliffhanger, so be ready for it, but it won’t break your soul like some of the cliffies they leave us with. Austyn - the princess who reminds me of princess Jasmine / rapunzel which her long silver hair and trapped within the castle.Yea I started with Darius’ POV whining and throwing tantrums like a pathetic lil scorned bitch 😭 he was so thoughtful to make that present and shouldve just left it in her room ffs. Kyra, our innocent, naïve, yet quirky all-powerful being, was once again my favorite character of the story!

The “street rat” part of Aladdin - this guy is the literal fucking worst piece of shit I have ever tortured my eyeballs with. In typical TS fashion, this new series has multiple povs, magical world building, fantastic character development, heart-stopping cliffhanger, a villain you absolutely hate, memorable minor characters (ahem Washer-like character), and laugh out loud moments. A pageant of only the richest suitors to win her unwanted hand and become the next emperor is scheduled as part of her 21st birthday celebrations. Overall it was an enjoyable read with good world building and very well written my only main gripe is information overload which wasn’t needed.

I am recovering from this ending and I am scarred for eternity, and I demand financial compensation for this. Look, no one is more disappointed than I am that I didn't absolutely love this book especially after I loved the prequel novella so much that I gave it 5 stars. Austyn is boring af lol I didn’t like it when her chapters came up cause she just gave me way too many damsel in distress vibes. Then at around 70% all main characters are finally at one place but it’s still boring as hell seeing as they don’t interact, at least not all four of them.
