Our main concern was on flatter, bumpy sections and techy climbs where riders may be apt to pay less attention.

Honestly, I don't know why I bother putting alloy flats on my expensive bikes and nylon chester's on my park bikes and commuters. unique hexagon shaped 8mm steel pins are fitted to each side of the pedal, and thread through from the rear for easier removal when damaged. If you're in the market for a budget-friendly composite pedal, we highly recommend the OneUp Composite.

This puts them in the larger end of the platform size spectrum, especially in terms of their length. Awesome pedals, except that if the outter bearing goes, the screw on the end isn't big enough to keep the pedal on. The nylon pedals were introduced as a low cost item for Joe blogs and his mates and now they are on a par with the higher cost aluminium option as stated in this review. During installation on these cranks, please ensure the pedal is rotating freely, there is space between the pedal body and crank, and the pedal is torqued to 35Nm.

I have taken mine completely apart and see no way to pump grease into the bearings without disassembling them. As an example, Superstar Nano-X is the same thickness (as the composite, 17mm) with the only downside being the weight penalty with steel axles (80g heavier). We feel the thinner profile helps expand these pedals' versatility, making them a great option for everyone from trail to downhill riders. Switching shoes to a slightly more flexible sole with deeper recesses, such as Five Tens’ Impact Pro, led to instant relief from the issue, with a reassuring amount of grip and no foot pain even on extended descents. The One Up Composite flat pedal takes a unique approach to its flat pedal design, eschewing the commonly held theory that a concave profile works best. Tooling marks are different and while their volume produced could have led to a new tool being cut in between when I purchased my Chesters/ eagles, the subtle differences in geometry lend to a copy cat situation, potentially by a supplier of RaceFace, happens all too often when tooling goes over seas. I'm willing to bet when those new XT flat pedals get a long term review it will be similar to their SPD offerings, Cheap, and crazy durable.

The OneUp Composite pedals are one of those products that posted a solid score in all performance metrics. Taking them apart and properly lubricating the bushings on occasion definitely improves performance. While I prefer concave platforms, OneUp employs a less aggressively convex shape than what I've seen on other pedals. Plastic" pedals are nothing new, but they took some time to gain a foothold in the mountain bike scene.

Flats also improve the skill set of the rider as they learn to stay connected to the bike without being attached to it. I found my ankle rolling slightly outward during hard cornering, but I do not feel this would be an issue for a rider with a smaller foot.

Another bonus for us low bottom bracket people is that the profile is actually more slender than my SPD M540s were.In other words the centre of the pedal, around the axle, is thicker than the leading and trailing edge.
