The book offers fascinating insights into the increasing popularity of elective cosmetic surgery. It also helps readers to understand the benefits and the risks of numerous popular procedures so that patients can make an informed choice. Several oil companies in Texas have reported thefts of crude, Colles tells her. He isn’t so much concerned with the oil as he is with the money: Who is selling the oil, and what are they doing with the profits? Rumor has it that a fairly ugly militia group might be involved. Colles wants to know if the money is going to them, and if so, what they’re planning. The hunters become the hunted in this high-stakes Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers thriller from Number One bestselling author John Sandford. Fans of the Prey/Lucas Davenport series will already be familiar with Virgil Flowers as Davenport recruits him into the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. But before he joined the team, he was a US Army and military police officer, and he also had a stint as a cop in Saint Paul.

E-Book

Davenport begins the series as a detective with the Minnesota Police Department. Still, when a scandal forces him to resign, he becomes a government deputy chief in charge of his intelligence unit. Review of the Penguin Audio audiobook edition (October 4, 2022) released simultaneously with the G. P. Putnam’s Sons hardcover edition Five millionaires meet at a Bitcoin conference and decide it might be a fun challenge to personally get rid of a few people who they think do not deserve to live for various reasons. What could go wrong? Letty Davenport, the brilliant and tenacious adopted daughter of Lucas Davenport, takes the investigative reins in this #1 New York Times bestselling thriller from John Sandford. The novel has a very good conclusion, but one that leaves the door open for a directly-connected follow-up (something Sandford has done a few times over the course of this series, but is not the norm). I’m certainly looking forward to that book, whenever it happens to surface.

While the murderers seem to well plan and meticulously carry out each murder with an eye for escaping identification, the person who killed Sikes made an uncharacteristic mistake, which through good police work, Davenport and Flowers uncover. That leads to the man’s identity. Eventually, thanks mostly to the efforts of Davenport and Flowers, the FBI accumulates enough evidence to arrest Sike’s killer and hopes they can pressure him into giving up his accomplices. But when he makes bail, someone murders him and he is only the first of The Five who becomes a murder victim in this complex plot. The good guys wonder if someone is cleaning up loose ends. The case takes Davenport and Flowers from coast to coast, along with points in between. Reading book #32 before reading 1-31 isn't ideal, but when it's Righteous Prey, you can't go wrong. The crime set up, the suspense, the full-steam action ahead and for me, the excitement of discovering an author with a catalog of books related to U.S. Marshalls Lucas and Virgil. I am in HEAVEN! Letty Davenport, the brilliant and tenacious adopted daughter of Lucas Davenport, takes the investigative reins in the newest thriller from #1 bestselling author John Sandford. John Camp found great success as a journalist, and in 1986, his outstanding reporting work earned him the coveted Pulitzer Prize.Thankfully, Lucas is not alone, he has Virgil Flowers with him. I haven't read Virgil's series but he has been in enough of the Prey series, that I already know I like him. Lucas Davenport and Virgil Flowers team up again to go after a bunch of crazies. This time it is a little complicated because the bad guys are killing worse guys. So who are we suppose to root for? I confess, I've been a John Sandford fan for years. I've enjoyed all his books, especially the Prey and Virgil Flowers series. Again in this book, Sandford wove Virgil into a Prey story with excellent results. There are fourteen Virgil Flowers books to explore, with the most recent two crossing over from the Prey/Lucas Davenport series.

Book Review: Righteous Prey by John Sandford

We get familiar characters in this one, Jennifer (mother of Lucas's first kid we rarely head about) newscaster, Jason Kidd (also mention of his wife), Frankie, and some characters from the last book. However there was one little glitch that irked this reader just a tad. I read to escape, to lose myself in another world created by great authors. What I don't need is for the author to climb up on a soapbox and espouse his/hers political beliefs. Even if its one I too believe in. I don't need it in the fiction I read. I get enough of it in the news. More and more authors are injecting their political leanings in their books and its very sad. Its not the correct form. And I know some might think saying its not the correct form to be my political belief. In 2006, John Sandofrod penned the popular short story Lucy Had a List, which tells the chilling tale of a grammar-obsessed golf teacher and her very important list.In 1978, he left the Herald to work as a reporter and columnist at St. Paul Pioneer Press, a job he stayed in for twelve years.

Sandford fans rejoice! Davenport next generation has arrived and Letty is exactly the kind of cool-eyed, smart-mouthed, lethally dangerous heroine we’ve been waiting for.”–Lisa Gardner, author of One Step Too Far Sandford story is told throughout from the point of view of both the chasers and the chased. The result is that it feels like we, the reader, are often a step ahead of the law enforcement agencies as the action plays out. We want to know about the Five and their targets. And Lucas and Virgil? Well, their interactions are sarcastically witty at times. They look out for each other and put themselves in precarious positions to get the bad guys. They work well together and really like each other, something you would expect from law enforcement officers with a history of solving crimes. A group of vigilantes known only as ‘The Five’ are targeting the worst of society – rapists, murderers and thieves – and they use their unlimited resources to offset the damage done by those who they’ve killed, donating untraceable Bitcoin to charities and victims via the Dark Web. Soon, they are the most popular figures on social media . . . but their motives may not be entirely pure. Righteous Prey is like the others, the conflict is well motivated and intriguing. It's also very, unique. I truly don't know where he comes up with some of these ideas. I love Davenport and Virgil Flowers each of which have their own series. They both appear in this one, play off each other and don't vary an inch from their already established characters. Sanford is one of the best out there and if you haven't given him a try you are missing out. Its better to start the Prey series from the beginning because Davenport's personal life continues to evolve. His Daughter Letty who appears in earlier books now has her own series. Love that one as well. This was about to be a 5-star read until a totally implausible scenario takes place in a Ralph Lauren store in a mall and I just had to take off half a star for that. (Sorry Mr. Sandford). But they aren’t just partners in crime; they’re partners in love, too, and as their series develops, so does their sexual chemistry.
