Description

With regards to watchmaking, the Bauhaus style is a form of minimalistic design. A Bauhaus timepiece boasts an aesthetically straightforward and legible design that complements its overall functionality. Some of the features you would typically see on a Bauhaus-style wristwatch include slim indices, clean fonts, and a minimalistic, simple dial pattern. A famous example of an innovation that came from layout experimentation is designer Laszlo Moholy-Nagy's "Typophoto," which combined typography and photography, forming a new approach to the way each was perceived and expressed. Geometric shapes Most people think of sleek, straightforward, and minimalist designs when they hear Bauhaus. Bright dials, Arabic numerals, and thin indices and hands characterize most Bauhaus watches. Such is the case with the Nomos Tangente, a watch that has been available since 1992. The Tangente is one of the Glasshütte-based manufacturer’s original four models and has since become an icon of modern watch design. It is without a doubt the most well-known Nomos watch. Junghans Bauhaus watches are notable because Max Bill was their designer. For Nomos, graphic designer Susanne Günther was central to the creation of their minimalist watches.

She is writing her doctoral thesis on the architect Konrad Ludwig Wachsmann, who in the 1940s and 1950s, together with Walter Gropius, advanced the industrialization of construction in the United States. He was a student at the Bauhaus school during the mid-1920s. He then went on to produce work in different fields. He worked as an architect, artist, painter, typeface designer and graphic designer. The Art school moves to Dessau, Germany. Gropius designed the building for the new Bauhaus Dessau himself and oversaw the move of the art school. Form follows function" was an essential motto in the movement. This meant that the functionality of any design was first and foremost. The form of an object should support its purpose or function, essentially. First, it has those two important words at the foot of the dial. Swiss-Made. Zeno is a Swiss brand. Watch fans value that and place a big importance on watches built by Swiss watchmakers. This one's just for fun! A maker of high-quality watches, the brand is known for different watch styles like pilot, marine, sports, and chronographs. Like the Nomos, there are two mechanical options. Junghans also have some more affordable Quartz models.

However, modern Bauhaus styling is evident in our daily lives and in the design of many of our favourite products. You've probably heard the saying "less is more." This saying comes from architect Mies Van Der Rohe, who was the last director at the Berlin Bauhaus, and an influential teacher at the time.

To this day, Bauhaus remains one of the most influential design movements of all time, having married functional design with aesthetic pleasure to create a modern art form that could bring beauty to everyday objects and beyond.

Not a lot of watchmakers can create Bauhaus watches as skillfully as Nomos does. And with a simple glance at the Metro 38, you would probably agree. Its galvanised white silver-plated dial acts like an art canvas that highlights the different details of the watch face. The blue spot-like hour markers on the outer rim of the dial and the subdial’s vibrant red second hand provide some splashes of colour and create a cohesive look that is easy on the eyes. Lange & Söhne have different styles of watch collections, most of which have a more crowded and intricate (but not messy) layout such as the Zeitwerk collection, a mechanical watch with many elements on the dial. One of its most popular collections, however, has a minimalist design, which fits right into the Bauhaus style category. But there is some colour. The yellow secondhand adds enough to catch the eye. It doesn't overwhelm the plain dial or compromise the Bauhaus aesthetic. It makes for a quirky piece. I like that the company famed for shavers comes at the Bauhaus style from a different angle. We see the same thing happening in design today, where technological innovations inspire how we design, and the two work together in unison. This is particularly evident in UX design, app design, and web design. Graphic designers are required to create for technology. FunctionalityThe design of the Bauhaus curriculum revolutionized art education. By starting with an understanding of form, and having the opportunity to play with many materials and disciplines, students were able to naturally gravitate towards where their interests and talents were most suited.
