Commander Cody Review: LEGO 75349 Captain Rex and 75350 Clone Commander Cody

One of the Galactic Republic's most dependable Clone Commanders comes to Star Wars: Legion in this new Commander Expansion! The Pyke Syndicate is known throughout the galaxy for their domination of the raw spice trade. Originating in the underworld of the planet Oba Diah, the Pyke Syndicate grew in power as they obtained more and more territory. Learn Like Captain Rex, the sculpting and ingenious use of negative space and depth are incredibly eye-catching, and I cannot state just how well they got the Clone Trooper look right. In the furor around Adepticon and Worlds, AMG finally showed off all of Commander Cody’s cards and they are quite interesting. Today we’re going to take a look at all the cards that will come in the upcoming Commander Cody release. The Other Guys – Waxer & BoilThe strength of this command card is really in being able to play a one-pip, and on your first activation have a free aim from Target, four observe tokens, and possibly another aim from an aim action. This combined with a Fire Support can really mess some stuff up as the first activation of the turn. One down side of Fire Supports is you often need to ‘spool them up’ to get maximum effectiveness. A Cody Fire Supported here can really apply the heat. Dear AMG: If you have art for the shot above with the title “When have I ever let you down?” then I will love you, and also hate you, forever Bonus: Clone personnel?!

The blue and and white colours of the 501st legion are brilliantly captured here, and I especially love how vibrant the blue is, although one could make the argument that the shade of blue isn’t 100% accurate. Hi Tim – just want to make sure I’m picturing this correctly…I’m a newer player and I haven’t played GAR, so I might be missing something, but how would Fire Support work with Cody’s 1-pip? Since it only activates him, no one else would have a faceup token, correct? With the inclusion of a crashed vehicle scenario in STAR WARS: Legion Spec Ops, our team decided to take on the challenge of crashing vehicles from our armies so that we could use them as terrain for content and home games. Learn Here’s some math on fire support shots that are possible with him just for fun (All these assume two aims and 2 observation tokens to use for the shot, all done with “Tell Me The Odds”): Having both Commander Cody and Captain Rex inducted into the Helmet collection makes perfect sense, and the boon of having both a Phase 1 and Phase 2 options means that it won’t feel awfully repetitive if you have to build both, especially one after another.

Rapid(ish) Reactions: Commander Cody - The Fifth Trooper

The Clone Trooper Helmets translate incredibly well to the Helmet format, and with the bright colours of the 501st and 212th, I can definitely say that they’re great additions to the collection. LEGO’s new Modular Natural History Museum (10326) will be available in December instead of January 2024! Rounds of gameplay continue until one side has met the scenario's victory condition, one side has no remaining figures (in which case their opponent wins), or 6 rounds have been fully played.

Take Cover 1: Probably the least consequential keyword. Cody really wants to be doing more than handing out a dodge token. That being said, it gives Cody the ability to give a dodge to a Saber Tank which can help keep it alive. Cody can also get two dodges on the board when he activates, which could help keep your clone ball alive. A face up to vehicles, which can be key on one-pips (which is usually when you want to fire support, when they can’t act first to prepare for it by dodging or running). Obviously if the vehicle is starting the FS then he won’t be the one involved but this gives you some good options. Commander Cody will not be coming to Legion alone. In the ‘Commander Cody’ box will come three miniatures. The two companions that come with Cody are Waxer and Boil. These two unique personal upgrades add more possibilities to your Clone Armies. But what I and many other GAR players would really like is some more variety for the competitive scene. Right now it’s notable when a list that doesn’t feature Yoda or Anakin even makes the cut let alone win tournaments with substantial player counts (>20 or so). I had a lot of fun with Anakin for most of a year an did pretty well with him (made cut at Adepticon, Grand Finals in Invader League) but I’m honestly a bit tired of the type of painstaking play (and dependence on good terrain) that’s required to do well with a GAR Jedi list and I’d love to mess around with a clone-only gunline or (non-Anakin/Yoda based) vehicle list that allows me to compete with a level of choice that the other factions have. GAR just generally feels a bit constricted because of high costs and low options and Cody seems like a promising way to allow players to experiment a bit more while still staying on level with the rest of the field (for those of us who care about such things, and if you don’t that’s cool too!) All these cards have a lot of text on them. We’re going to try and boil it down below. Also, these cards have some room for interpretation When Cody comes out there’ll likely be some forum posts clarifying some things. 1-Pip: Bring it Down!
