The experiences gathered on these trips are often shared with the manufacturers directly with the hopes that improvements can be made post-production or in the case of pre-production units, made prior to public release. Quiet ride does go lower. Are you thinking of the RLC Q-ride by chance? That’s more for “high speed muting” of red light cameras when you’re driving on the highway.

Starting off with 33.8, the newer Uniden platform detectors (R4 & R8) were off to a great start. They managed to overall outperform the other detectors. The R8 can detect MRCD, MRCT and Gatso and does it quite well. User testing [1]has revealed that it has 2-4 times the range the R7 offers against MRCD. This is quite handy if you deal with short range alerts from lower frequency MRCD photo radar systems on a daily basis. But the Uniden R8 takes things even further: it has a dedicated false alert filter called Ka Guard. Ka Guard detects and mutes any K band false alerts from other drivers’ collision avoidance systems that are scattered throughout your vicinity. The Uniden R7 does not have this feature, so the Uniden R8 wins out here! Laser Sensitivity If you want to geek out, read through the owner’s manual of the R7 and then the R8’s manual. If you find other subtle differences that make the R8 stand out, it’s because of the new platform. Radar & Laser Protection Highway Radar on Android is currently building integration for the R4 and R8, but that’s still in development. Blendmount Surprisingly, the Uniden R8 trailed in X-band relative to the Uniden R4, this could be accounted by a model to model variation or the relative designs of the convex lenses on the two radar detectors, but still the performance was very good. Police Laser Detection Performance

This puts the radar detection performance of the Redline 360c squarely in the neighborhood of the Uniden R8 and the new Valentine 1 Gen2. The end result is, that after many years, Whistler finally has a radar detector that can consistently compete with the best radar detectors available today.I've seen a few used R3's locally...is there anything to watch out for? Old/bad firmware, common failure points like the power port or inability to find a signal, etc? I've been using the same relic of a.radar detector since graduating in '93 but I ALWAYS use Waze just to be sure. The arrows work pretty well overall. MRCD performance is excellent for those who need it. The detector isn’t fully stealth to RDD’s which doesn’t make a difference to me, but it may to others.

The Uniden R7 is no slouch either when it comes to display. Its screen size is much smaller compared to that of the R8, however it still provides adequate data points and menu control options. Redline 360c: R8 beat out the Redline. Unexpectedly the Redline gave me longer range in Auto mode than in Highway mode. I don’t understand why since Auto mode always has somewhat reduced sensitivity, even when driving at full highway speeds. AutoLoK mode did well here. I was expecting more of a range reduction.Mazda falses are rare with TSF on, MRCD on, and Auto mode. I get more with Highway mode, TSF off, and MRCD off.
