Description

Convey a single thought: When giving a clue it should only be about one idea. You should avoid clues with multiple ideas or a lot of explanatory context. If the clue would force the players to debate two or more sections of the clue separately, it shouldn’t be given. Wavelength in played over rounds. The teams will alternate playing rounds. Each round consists of four phases. You will score points in the same way as the normal game. If you hit the middle of the target (four point wedge), you will only score three points. You will get to add another wavelength card to the game though. This means you will get to play another round likely increasing your score. Since Wavelength is based off of gut feelings, you should restrict yourselves to saying things like "way more to the right", or "down a little" rather than "turn it to 25%".

Don’t Make Things Up: When giving a clue you can use a fictional thing/person/etc if it existed outside of the game you are playing. You are not allowed to make up something on the spot for a clue. Wavelength is a straightforward game to play. Players are assigned to two teams. One player on one of the teams is presented with a card, on which two dichotomous extremes are written, e.g. dark - light. The “active” player is shown a randomised position on a sliding dial - let’s imagine that the position is near, but not at the very end of, the “dark” end of the scale. They have to come up with a word which matches that position on the scale - they may choose “twilight”, or “Deadpool”. The rest of the team then have to guess where on the scale they think that word belongs. When you have played all of the chosen wavelength cards, the game will end. You will then compare your score to the chart below to see how well you did. For example, if I am giving a clue using the word an old coin. Using the adjective extremely to qualify the clue is giving away too much. Benefits of playing the wavelength board game Of course, you can customise all this if you want. Play to more than 10! Do more than seven cards! Don't score at all! It doesn't break anything. As you can imagine, the joy of playing Wavelength comes not just from the game itself, but from the discussion which surrounds the guesses. So although the game would work with 4 people perfectly well, it wouldn’t be much fun… six players seems to be minimal ideal numbers. Think of it like a speedometer. With a random spin the bullseye may be at 20mph or it may be far to the right at 120. So let's say it's at 30, halfway between the centre and zero.

Very infrequently, the target's center (the 4 point wedge) won't be visible at all. If that happens, close the screen and spin again. If the center target is ever partially in view on the left or right extreme, that's valid-even if it's just a sliver. As a team you work together to try to beat your high score, and individuals can be rewarded with personalized achievements.

After the active team has made their decision, the other team also gets the chance to discuss and guess where the dial is supposed to be. Whether it’s supposed to go to the left or right. Also, whether it is too far right or too far left. After this, the next phase begins. The Scoring Phase Place one head into the slot on the left side that doesn’t have a number next to it. You will place the other head on the right side in the same slot. This is kind of a weird one. It hews closest to the ubiquitous Codenames, that ever-popular word-guessing game held up as one of the best board games of recent years that can now be found in every shop and home. One team has a go, a member offering a clue to the rest of their chums and hoping to lead them true. But I have to explain the process of how this works because it's not so simple. The psychic must in no way communicate with his team members or make any facial expressions after he has given the clue. The Team phase The Psychic should do all of this secretly, so players on both teams can't see where the target is.

If a Psychic ever gives away the target location after giving their clue, either verbally or nonverbally, it's up to everyone playing to decide whether to penalize the team. The zone runs from two points at each edge to four in the middle. Their challenge is then to give a clue that tells their team-mates where on the dial the scoring zone is. Like Codenames, Wavelength can have periods of downtime, but it's worth it for the conversation in-between.When giving clues to your teammates you are trying to come up with something that will get your teammates to guess the correct section of the spectrum between the two extremes printed on the wavelength card. After the Psychic gives their clue, it's up to the rest of their team to READING THEIR MIND and turn the dial as close to the center of the target area as they can. The closer to the center of the target, the more points your team scores! (The other team also gets a chance to score).
