That’s why I needed a camera bag that’s easy to carry throughout the day, allows rapid access to my camera, and with enough extra space for some essential travel items. I looked at some ways to attach a bottle to the shoulder strap using a loop — and that will probably be my solution. There is also another way to add a bit of capacity for such items, which is to use the two attachment straps that enable you to attach some items to the bottom of the bag. I’ve found this useful for attaching a raincoat or large (e.g. 1 liter) water bottle when going on a hike.

The Sling also opens nice and wide to easily be able to access your gear. No fussing about in small spaces. I feel that the Everyday Sling is a perfect balance of all of the above. It’s not a bulky or an over padded build. It feels purposefully designed – and it fits that so wonderfully. It’s suitable for a camera with maybe one or two lenses. At least, this will leave enough breathing room if you shoot with an APS-C or full-frame camera. If you use a smaller camera system, such as Micro Four Thirds, you’ll be able to fit more. 6L

SPIRIT OF THE PEAKS

I’m not the kind of photographer who likes to carry a lot of things with me on a day-to-day basis. I like to only bring what I’ll need with me. The build quality on the Everyday Sling is top-notch.The attachment points for the strap feel strong and give a sense of being over engineered, which is great, because it doesn’t feel as though they’d ever tear or give way.

The Peak Design Everyday Sling 5L feels nicely balanced on my shoulder and its rigidity gives me a lot of confidence in opening it without spilling all of my gear on to the ground while walking. Strength Rating: 200lb (This is the rating for the Dyneema-corded Anchor Link anchors. The 45mm seat belt webbing could probably lift up your car.) The 10L when fully loaded is almost pushing it a bit in terms of size and weight, but I think its versatility more than makes up for it. Both versions are comfortable to wear. If you have a particularly small frame, perhaps the 10L could be a bit on the chunky end for you. For me, it’s just about the maximum size for a sling. 6L The materials used are very sturdy and have a premium feel, while the functional design is very smart, as is typical of Peak Design. I also have to say the aesthetics are a huge step up from other competing bags out there. LowePro or Manfrotto products just scream “camera bag!”, have logos on them, or unnecessary red or yellow accent lines. Peak Design keeps it a lot more minimal and classy.

If, for example, I’m just headed out running errands or venturing out with my wife and friends, I like to carry the Everyday Sling and nothing else. Peak Design supply you with two of their unique “FlexFold” dividers to position however you desire and create the arrangement you need. The plate has small cutouts in each corner that allow attachment of an anchor. When connected to a strap eyelet and the plate, the camera hangs more naturally at your side when worn across your shoulder/chest as a sling. There are other products on the market that allow you to attach a strap to your camera's tripod mount, but virtually all of them must be removed if you wish to use a tripod. Integrating an Arca-Swiss compatible plate into its design means that users of the Slide can easily tripod mount their camera without making any changes to the strap setup. Before we dive in—just know that your preference between the two will come down to how much stuff you want to carry. The more stuff you have, the more you’ll appreciate the extra space available in the 6L size. Today, we’re going to take a look at the Peak Design Everyday Sling 6L (V2). We’ve already reviewed the three liter size. Basically, the 6L version is the same as the 3L version only, you know, larger by three liters. Plus, the 6L version has a tablet sleeve. You’ll easily be able to fit a mirrorless camera and 1-2 lenses, spare batteries, filters, and a variety of other smaller accessories in the Peak Design 5L Sling, despite it being only 5 litres in overall capacity. The main compartment has a three-litre capacity (no prizes for guessing that) and has two hook-and-loop panels to position the modular folding divider. This folding divider is origami-like - it works as a vertical divider but has a folding flap, providing two smaller compartments when needed, one above the other. The UltraZips open down the sides, allowing the compartment to open wide for maximum access. Two fabric hinges prevent the compartment from falling open and spilling items onto the floor. Though small, the Peak Design Everyday Sling 3L is a tough little bag. Its outer layer is double poly-coated 400D nylon, a lightweight and durable material that protects against abrasion and rips. The material’s water resistance is reinforced via DWR (Durable Water Repellent) to provide a hydrophobic waterproof shell. All outer material is 100 per cent recycled, which is great news for sustainability. The hardware carried by the Everyday Sling is robust, as are the Peak Design UltraZips. These zips are also weather-resistant, as to not undermine the waterproofing of the material.
