Worlds on Fire: Volcanoes on the Earth, the Moon, Mars, Venus and Io. Cambridge University Press. pp.64, 65, 66. ISBN 978-0-521-80393-9. You might think that the ideal time to observe the lunar surface is during a full Moon or even a full supermoon, but instead, find out when the Moon will next be visible in the night sky during its crescent or gibbous phase. This will enable you to spot the ' terminator', which is the line dividing the bright and dark portions of the Moon from our perspective. I thought it was quite brave of the author to write about an event that happened so recently and would still be remembered by a lot of people, including of course people who were flooded themselves. It was interesting to read about the many ways in which people were affected by the flood and how long after the waters had receded the floods continued to have an impact on their lives. Simple things in everyday life, like being able to access public transport and being able to sleep when its raining were suddenly a challenge to people which I hadn’t fully considered before.

Storytelling at its finest, Louise Beech is a beguiling wordsmith. Prepare to be hooked’ Amanda Prowse a b Coombs, Cassandra R.; Hawke, B. Catherine has lost her house due to flooding and decided to volunteer at a flood crisis call center. Catherine begins to start having nightmares and triggers memories for her. Catherine can't remember her memories of when she was a little girl.

[53] They were likely produced by small volcanic explosions since most contain a small elongated or irregular-shaped central pit or crater. [53] [55] Examples are preserved along the crater floor edge of Alphonsus, an impact crater on the eastern edge of Mare Nubium. [55] Louise Beech always writes from the heart, her own life experiences are layered in there which gives it that strong authentic edge – never easy to describe or fit into genre boxes, Maria in the Moon encompasses many things – family drama, dark underlying social relevance, hints of psychological thriller but mostly just getting into your head, into those quiet between moments where you live and making you consider things differently.

Louise Beech has written a particularly moving story, not just in regard to Catherine, but also with regard to the people of Hull, and how much they suffered, both during, and after the deluge of 2007. It stirred up all kinds of emotions for the community. John, Tara (2017). "NASA: The Moon Once Had an Atmosphere That Faded Away". Time . Retrieved 2020-12-19. a b c d "Mare Fecunditatis". Highly recommended! Lunar domes are seldom found in isolation. Instead, they more commonly form in groups throughout the lunar lava plains. [34] A prominent example are the Marius Hills, one of the largest volcanic complexes on the Moon. [34] [35] They consist of several cones and domes that occupy the summit of a broad topographic swell, which may be the lunar equivalent of a shield volcano. [34] The complex rises 100 to 200m (330 to 660ft) from the surrounding plains and forms a 35,000km 2 (14,000sqmi) lava plateau. A total of 59 cones and 262 domes ranging in diameter from 2 to 25km (1.2 to 15.5mi) have been identified. [35] Part psychological thriller, part love story and fans of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine will love it’ Red Magazine This is such a unique read and one that’s hard to classify into just one standard genre, my friend Chelsea at The Suspense is Thrilling Me said Louise Beech novels are their own genre and I couldn’t agree more. There’s a little bit of everything, a mystery, some love, a hint of magical realism and most importantly, a plot that any human could relate to. Beech is one of the greats, no other author can bring out emotions in me like she can.

In reality, Mare Smythii is circular, but it is so near the lunar limb that from Earth it appears elliptical. In fact, some of the mare curves around onto the far side. The craters within the mare appear to have a large number of fractured floors, most likely caused by lava rising up from underneath. Mare Spumans XIth General Assembly" (PDF) (in French and English). International Astronomical Union. 1961 . Retrieved 26 July 2015. So, I have to start off by saying how beautiful this cover truly is! And I absolutely LOVE the title!! The floods of 2007 are ingrained in my mind. I remember watching Look North with Harry Gration showing the images of Sheffield and the surrounding area devastated by Mother Nature and calls from work colleagues stranded at home unable to get to Leeds. I didn’t catch much of the national coverage so I was never fully aware of the full extent of what had happened.

The author uses real events to imbue that authenticity, she takes you to the heart of all the themes she is exploring and makes you sit up and take notice. At the same time it is a wonderfully emotive piece of storytelling as always, entertaining and addictive – also deeply deeply moving and extremely thought provoking. The parts to do with Catherine and her mother I have to say left me feeling quite distraught. Catherine yearns to be loved by her mother yet her mother has always been stand offish and is not willing to give her daughter the love she so desperately wants and needs. I just wanted to wrap my arms around Catherine to tell her I was there for her as well as giving her mother a hard slap!
