Description

One of the main locations of this film was recorded in Scotland. From Glencoe to Loch Craignishe, passing through Glen Etive or Duart Castle. But also Scotland was used in other 007 films as The World is not Enough (1999) using the Eilean Donan Castle as the headquarters of the MI6.

The path from the car parking to the viewpoint takes 1 hour 15 minutes. Anyway, the views you will get once you arrive at the top will make your efforts rewarded.Knowing locations is an immensely important part of any photography trip. But to take good pictures, we need to come prepared. So the next few sections are all about the gear and resources that will help you when traveling to Scotland. Recommended Camera Gear On your North Coast 500 drive it’s very likely that you’re going to stop over and spend the night in or near Ullapool, which is one of the larger towns in this area. With a beautiful harbour location, it’s a great spot for photography. Having a camera up in the air opens up a whole array of new and exciting creative possibilities. Even the most recognizable sights look different from higher up allowing you to capture some unique compositions. Their hearing is also very sensitive; even the sound of a shutter going off can disturb them, or the rustling of waterproof trousers. But what I suggest the most is just grabbing a camera and taking a mindless stroll around the Edinburgh center. I guarantee you will find something unique and interesting. Whether it’s quaint historic buildings or fascinating street scenes, the city will find a way to surprise you.

Wind plays an important role in getting close enough to photograph otters. Wind direction is key – ideally you want a strong wind coming straight at you or onshore, staying upwind of the otters at all times. This means your scent will be going away from the subject and any sound you will make will also be taken away. The stronger the wind, the better your chances regarding noise.

Dunnottar Castle

All of these locations have highland coos on their property, although as the Torridon Hotel is a hotel and private property we’d suggest that you should look to spend the night here if you want to meet the coos, as we did. They have a fairly large herds of cows, which affords plenty of opportunities to get some lovely shots. This would be fantastic for either sunrise or sunset, although this would require a bit of hiking in the dark or some wilderness camping. On our trip we sadly didn’t have the time for that, but it was still beautiful to visit in the daytime as you can see.

On a calm day, however, you normally have to shoot on quiet mode combined with single shot (no bursts). This is where mirrorless cameras are incredible for otter photography, as the silent shutter is a game-changer and takes the issue of shutter noise away.If you don’t happen to come across them on your trip around the NC500 though, don’t worry, there are a few locations where you are almost guaranteed a photo of these guys. These are Robertsons Larder and Farm Shop, just north of Inverness, and the Torridon Hotel near Torridon. This will help draw your viewer into the scene, and if there’s a colourful car on the road it can help tell a story too. This is a journey that is very much about the road, so including it in some of your photos is definitely a good way to share your adventure with the people looking at the photos. Today, the landscaped gardens are a rather nicer environment, particularly popular in the summer as a place to relax and take in the views. And what views they are – with the wonderful Edinburgh Castle providing the centre point for your photography efforts! Firstly, the weather is extremely unpredictable, especially in Highlands. I used several weather apps in Scotland, and they all told me different things even for the following morning, let alone a few days in the future.
