Indesit offer a 10 year guarantee on parts (1 year for labour), but to get this you have to remember to register your warranty and parts are only free if they are fitted by an Indesit engineer. If neither of those apply, then its solid wash performance, low resource consumption on full load, good spread of programmes and very attractive asking price make the EWD 81482 a solid buy. Verdict

The soap drawer is basic but pulls out easily, and programmes are labelled on its front in large bold letters that won’t have you scrabbling for the reading glasses. The Indesit EWC 81483 W EU is a freestanding washing machine that offers efficient cleaning performance. With an energy efficiency class of A+++, it is designed to consume minimal electricity, resulting in cost savings and reduced environmental impact. The washing machine has an annual energy consumption of 195 kWh, making it an energy-efficient choice for households. The upshot is pretty much zero chance of this machine taking 8kg of dry weight clothes. Even our 80% max test at 6.4kg of dry washing proved a challenge to get into the drum; we settled on just under 6kg for the test. We have no doubt it can wash an 8kg load, but only if it’s well-folded bedding or similarly heavy, dense materials. For the sporty family, the Gym Kit programme covers sports items and sweaty towels (…it says so in the manual), and on the same theme there’s a dedicated “smelly trainer” programme for two pairs of Sports Shoes. You have a 60 Celsius cotton programme that takes 3.55 hours. That is almost a 4 hour washing cycle. The two Eco programmes take between 2.55 hours to 3.55 hours. Once again, this is rather a long time to wait for a washing machine to finish.

A great all round simple to use washing machine

So whilst the energy rating for running this machine isn’t the best, perhaps the features and programmes on this machine make up for it! Indesit My Time EWD81483WUKN Washing Machine Voucher code The washing machine has a rated capacity of 8 kg, allowing users to wash a substantial amount of laundry in a single load. It also features an annual water consumption of 11830 L, ensuring efficient water usage. The Indesit IWC 81483 W UK N features multiple washing programs that can be selected according to the type of load and level of soiling. These include programs for cotton, synthetics, wool, eco, and anti-stain, among others. It also has a time delay function that allows users to set the machine to start a cycle at a later time, which can be convenient for those with tight schedules. The big-hitting programmes are the two Eco Cotton cycles on which the energy label headline is based. You have a choice of 60 degree or 40 degree versions, both offering full load capacity, full 1,400rpm spin and a duration that creeps in under three hours. Shorter washes meaning more time to yourself, even if few of us actually sit around watching the drum go around until the end of the cycle. (Unless you’re a reviewer, in which case it’s an occupational hazard.)

You also have to watch the load capacity. The synthetics programme which takes 2.55 hours only takes a load of 4kg. Half-loads usually show improved spin efficiency since it’s easier to spin the water out of less washing. Sadly, that improvement was only 2%, and our original load was carrying a soggy 45% of its original weight in water. That will have a significant impact on energy use and drying time if you’re using a tumble dryer after the wash. Top of the Indesit’s 16-strong programme list are half-a-dozen Everyday Fast high-speed wash programmes that give this machine its “My Time” billing. While it does average 50dB, this more erratic sound is rather more obtrusive and annoying than a machine that runs at a consistent 50dB. If nothing else, it just goes to prove that the energy label can only be considered a rough guide to the reality for domestic appliances. Indesit EWD 81482 – What programmes does it have? Trying out a combination of an Everyday Fast wash and the Eco Saver feature gave some interesting results. While energy consumption plummeted to a super-frugal 0.25kW – less than a quarter of the standard 40 degree Eco Cotton half-load wash – water consumption went up to 60 litres and spin efficiency got worse! The washing machine has some handy features you’re probably hankering after even in a lower cost design, including a display that shows you the time remaining for a cycle in progress, and a delay timer button. It also has an inverter motor, which is both quieter and more efficient than an AC motor. Which probably has you asking: how much noise is this washing machine going to make when it’s spinning then? The answer is 78dB, which is around vacuum cleaner level or a tad higher and on a par with some of its rather more costly rivals. For comparison, normal conversation is 60dB. There’s no denying, though, that there are quieter machines out there (as well as noisier), including in the value part of the market as well as at the top end. Do be aware, though, that all the Everyday Fast programmes have a limited maximum spin between 800 (20- and 30-minute cycles) and 1,200rpm (Cotton 45), so expect the wash to be pretty wet when complete. You’ll also get some special programmes including, sporty types take note, a gym cycle into which you can put all your items even if you’re mixing fibres. There’s also a silk and delicates programme, which, once again, will save you the trouble of handwashing these items.
